I have a 2017 Ford Explorer Sport that has been back to the shop twice to figure out the smell coming in through the air conditioner. They have not been able to fix the problems after re-sealing the vehicle and changing out the exhaust system. The smell is sickening which gives bad headaches and burns my eyes when driving with the A/C on. I'm so fed up with this vehicle, I'm afraid of what might happen one day when I'm driving.

I have had smelly, moldy, mildew fumes coming from my AC vents that blow right into my face whenever I’m in my car. I’ve had the car for 21 months now. I’ve been feeling very ill during this time, having constant headaches, dizziness, vision changes, extreme fatigue etc. I’ve had to pull over to stop driving several times because I felt too dizzy and spaced out to drive. This past Friday June 7, 2019, I was having chest pain, shortness of breath, terrible headache, and felt extremely sick as I have for so long now since I’ve been driving this Explorer. I went to urgent care and they advised me to go to the emergency room ASAP. My husband drove me there in his car because my explorer was at the South Bay Ford dealership being “repaired†for the fumes for the fifth time. I was admitted to the hospital and had a MRI, CT scans, tons of bloodwork, ECG, cardio stress test. I spent the weekend there and was released and instructed to follow up with a neurologist to be treated for migraines and a cardiologist to keep track of my cardio health. All of my symptoms could be related to Carbon Monoxide exposure that very likely has been inside my car. Also, the mold can cause many of these symptoms. Bottom line is that I have felt extremely ill for 21 months now and when I stay out of my car for a week or so, I feel better. My explorer is at the dealership today, June 11, 2019, supposedly all fixed and ready for me to pick up. Remind you, this is the 5th time it has supposedly been fixed. I’m refusing to drive it and am trying to break my lease early without any penalties and have filed a complaint with Ford’s customer relations department and will also files complaints elsewhere. This has been a nightmare to say the least and I’m extremely frustrated that Ford has and continues to dismiss this catastrophic problem with their vehicles and are allowing drivers of these cars and their families to be put in an unknowingly dangerous environment where they could become extremely ill or worse pass out and crash the car and die.
