rails on windshield came off

I was driving down the freeway and the rail piece on windshield flew off and the car behind me had to swerve to avoid getting hit. Could have caused a serious accident. I called Ford, and they said the part is on back order due to lots of other vehicles needing the same replacement. Ford needs to recall on this bullshit - its going to cost me between 400-500 dollars. This part should not be flying off.
