windshield left side trim panel flew off

I am writing to report what could have been a serious accident-causing safety hazard. On Sunday, April 25, 2021 at approximately 1:00 PM EST, my wife was driving our 2017 Ford Explorer approximately 65 MPH Northbound on Route 55 in Deptford, NJ. Unexpectedly, the left windshield side panel blew off which startled her as well as the traffic behind her. This could have caused a serious multiple car pileup or motorcycle wipeout.

She pulled to the side of the road and dashed out to retrieve the molding. Five of the plastic clips are completely broken. A quick google search showed that this is a common problem with Ford Explorers but when I called the dealer, I was told that Ford will not cover this as part of my extended premium care warranty. Vehicle only had 36,900 miles on it when this happened.
