I bought a 2006 Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer, from a reputable dealer which offered a 30 day, 1000 mile warranty. It is a beautiful vehicle with 93,000 miles and it appeared to be in excellent condition, super clean and had a clear car fax. I paid top dollar for it by the way.
A month and a half and 1500 miles later, as I was backing out of the garage, I noticed a shutter in the drivetrain and the transmission was slipping and it didn't have enough power to pull the hat off your head. I took it to the local transmission shop and they plugged it into a computer and took it for a test drive. The diagnosis was that reverse was failing and would continue to get worse until it failed catastrophically. Being that it is my wife's ride I can't have it stranding her so it had to be fixed. The damage......$2800.00 and 8 days at the shop. Of course the dealer I bought it from felt bad about the problem but not bad enough to offer anything but his condolences.
I went on this site today and read all the problems with the Ford Explorer transmissions.........needless to say I was pissed. This should be a recall issue. It's obvious that Ford is well aware of the problems with these piece of sh*t transmissions but they are not going to do anything about it until they are forced to. Unfortunately the only recourse that we have is to go on sites like this and piss and moan in hopes that others read it and see what a "don't give a sh*t" attitude Ford Motor Company has towards its customers.
I've always been a "Ford guy" and buy a new F-250 every other year but next spring a new Chevrolet 2500 will be parked in my driveway.

When I step on the brakes sometimes the truck will jump or hesitate to go. I have taken really good care of this car. I have had the transmission serviced but ultimately I'm sure it needs to be replaced.
