One owner family truck ford F 150 1997. Transmission shifts hard and the truck jerks into gear. It revs the rpm up and jumps into gear. This is frequent when traveling at low rates of speed in a small town. It is avoidable if you do not come to a complete stop, but you cannot travel safely behind slow or frequent stopping vehicles such as a school bus. Ford mechanic said metal shavings were in the transmission. They serviced the transmission, replaced rear seal and pan $280. Problem is worse. I have all service records and there is no way shavings caused problem. Any clue?

Basically the only problem I've been having is the gear shifts. All of the gears shift really hard, like hard enough to jerk the truck hard, Now I have messed around with my acceleration before in it and noticed that if u really get on it from 1st to 2nd gear it shifts fairly nicely not a jerk at all ,but lets say that I get behind a school bus ,or god forbid some old lady, and they take there time accelerating it jerks in the gears almost like it's not getting enough RPM to get into the next gear and it needs to kick itself up to keep it rolling. I have been driving this truck for about a year now almost 2 and I've taken great care of it I know it's been taken care of its entire life span because my grandfather owned the truck before me and he loved the truck more then i probably do now (because needless to say its a really great truck) the only thing i can't understand is why it wants to jerk like that though everything else seems to checkout fine on the truck its just this one problem that im having right now i thought it could've been low on transmission fluid for awhile and when i got some and thought that would've fixed the problem the jerk was still there so i don't know what it could possibly be. if anyone has had this same problem and know what the fix is and could let me know i would gladly appreciate it but for the moment it just seems like im going to have to be on Cleveland highway flooring it until i get to the speed limit i want (which Ive gotten quite good at) haha.
