Engine was making a clicking sound, like a bad valve. Heard that cracked exhaust manifold was fairly common in Fords. Parts were $300. Labor was mostly involved in getting nuts off - needed to heat. Not well protected on the underbody - so rusted tight. Dealer didn't have parts so had to go back twice.

owned this truck since new engine started this at approx 75000 miles. currently have 150000. never did anything other than change oil every 2500 miles engine runs fine , the only problem other than this is that had to replace a coil because the anti-freeze drips down directly on top because ford designed a connection directly in the wrong place. I have fixed this problem by cutting a larger size of hose and wrapping the connection diverting it away if any leakage would accrue -the coil replacement at a ford dealer would cost 350 to 400 dollars and ford mech say this is because have to strip entire top of head to gain access -I designed and used a simple home made tool and have changed these in 15-20 min plus the cost of a coil 20 bucks
