Brake line is rusted could cause failure of brakes. Gas tank and supports are rusted replaced once but still all rusted. All frame underneath is rusted impossible to do repairs.

1999 Ford F-150. Consumer states gas tank defect the consumer stated when he son backed the truck out of the garage, the entire gas tank fell to the ground. The straps supporting the gas tank broke. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop and the gas tank was replaced.

The contact owns a 1999 Ford F150. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 to 35 mph the fuel tank separated from the vehicle, and the fuel spilled onto the ground. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The failure was not diagnosed. The contact does not know if the fuel tank straps were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer took a report 1405151861 and denied assistance with the repair. The failure and current miles were 160,000. Updated 08/05/11 according to the invoice, the fuel tank straps rusted off which caused the tank to fall to the ground, creating a hole in the tank/ updated 08/12/11

The contact owns a 1999 Ford F-150. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph when he heard a loud noise coming from the vehicle. He then pulled over and noticed that the fuel tank had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer and they advised him that the straps had rusted, causing the tank to detach. The vehicle was repaired for the straps and the fuel tank. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that there was no recall for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 182,500. Driving home from work and heard loud scraping and then smelled gas. Pulled over to find gas tank dragging on the ground with gas leaking out of tank. Had it towed home. Had to replace gas tank, hoses, vent and both tank straps. The consumer stated both straps broke and rusted across the whole width of the tank. They fell apart in pieces. They were corroded very bad. F-150 fuel tank mounting strap failure. Updated 08/01/11 the consumer stated the forward strap failed. It broke near the frame attach point. The strap was manufactured with a spot weld doubler plate where it attaches to the frame. Both straps were severely corroded. The truck is garage kept and shows no signs of corrosion elsewhere. No fuel was spilled and the straps were replaced before total support failure occurred. Updated 08/02/11
