F-150 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 132,000 miles
The contact owns a 1999 Ford F150. While driving approximately 5 mph over railroad tracks, the contact heard a loud noise outside of the vehicle and maneuvered to the side of the road. He noticed the fuel tank partially detached to the ground in a tilted position. The fuel tank was not damaged and both metal fuel tank straps were completely rusted. The contact performed a temporary fix and was able to resume with caution. After reaching the destination both fuel tank straps were replaced with new ones. The manufacturer was made aware of the defect. Currently, there was an open investigation associated with NHTSA action number EA11006 (fuel system, other: Storage: Tank assembly). The failure mileage was 132,000. The VIN was unavailable. Updated 08/31/2011
