  • 84,000 miles
(1) 1999 Ford F150 that has been well maintained, jumps into low gear while traveling at speed limit (45-55) the overdrive light is flashing. (2)it throws you against the steering wheel. This vehicle had not given any indication of problems (3) carried to dealer (malloy Ford, jasper) on July 23 when I could take it. It has not been completed yet. The dealer said it was a heat related problem, but called back and said it would need overhauled for $3604 or replaced for $2281.52.

The 4 wheel drive in the consumer 1999 Ford F150 engaged in low range while driving. This caused the truck to jerk, lose control and the rear end to go out. The consumer had a new rear end put in but the truck has continued to go in and out of 4 wheel drive automatically. Now the truck start on it's own. The consumer had to disconnect the battery to keep from burning out the starter. When the cruise control is on the transmission wouldn't shift and the RPM's raced into the red. The consumer could hear clicks under the dash while this was happening which resulted in the battery being drained. The radiator leaked.

Transmission blew a back seal. There was metal and brass shavings in the trasnmission. The repair person said he believed the problem was being caused by "rear seal walking or spinning out, probably due to excess driveshaft moving or flexing. We rebuilt the transmission and a week later we are having the same problem. Except this time the rear seal got so hot it blew the transmission core also. I have spent $1700 so far. No end in site and no help from Ford.

I bought the 99 F-150 used. I've owned it for 2 years and in those two years spent over 3000 dollars repairing it. I cant handle the thought of keeping a truck that cost so much in repairs. And now the dealer tells me I need a new transmission. This is one week after I spent over 500 replacing the spark plugs, fuel filter, and getting the fuel injectors cleaned. I have only 58,000 miles on the thing and was told by the dealer that the plugs don't need to be touched for 100,000 miles. Well it was missing and that was the problem. The truck slams into gear between 1 and 2, and now the problem is my transmission is bad. At 58,000 miles" and I've never even towed anything. Just regular wear and tear" I think these trucks must be lemons. After I get the transmission fixed, I'll have spent $5,600 in a two year span. I have to sell it because the repairs are more than the payment. I guess that's why it was sold to me when it was only two years. Old.

Seal failer at 75 mph caused the overrive to fail, causing transmission bands to fail. I have an extended warranty policy, however, they are not willing to cover the transmission because they feel the transmission was deliberately run with out fluid. The rear seal failed, causing the rear housing to also fail. This all happened unknowingly while driving down the highway at 75 mph. The transmission would obviosly be run low on fluid when the rear seal completely blows out of it seat. I am hoping that you will do whats right and help me get this matter resolved by informing my extended warrantee provider that this insident was unavoidable. Thank you.

Truck was unstable with cause unknown by dealership. Owner has taken vehicle in for corrective action several times, however nothing has changed. Vehicle vibrates excessively when at idle with RPM gauge fluctuating up/down. Consumer states that the engine runs rough, oil level dropped and there was a clicking noise in which the dealer replaced the fan blade and fan clutch. Rear brakes experienced grinding, dealer applied a silencer to the front and rear brake pads. Consumer has experienced several problems with the A/C and heater, problems still exists. Vehicle uses a lot of gas, idles rough and experiences small hesitation upon acceleration. Vehicle kicks into gear. Vehicle drifts to the right, while driving at higher speeds, vehicle and steering wheel vibrate. Driver side rear view mirror rattles when closing door, when everything is closed there is an outside noise, dealer resealed the windshield. When turning on the lights, the clock and A/C are delayed. There is a whining noise when turning steering wheel. Window control buttons stick at times, dealer replaced the window switch.

Suden jump in idle speed(TO3000)RPM.dangerous to hold vehicle stopped in snow. Transmission does not downshift to low gear till rmp drops below 1000. Dangerous to stop vehicle. Foot must be applied firmly on brake pedal at traffic lights for the duration of the stop for fear of vehicle lurching forward and hitting car in front. Dealer said he fixed. Problem still present. Very objectionable odor in vehicle( like burning off old oil deposits on metal) present at times. Unbearable to an asthmatic person. Vehicle otherwise in sound shape.
