The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the ABS brake light would illuminate sporadically. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the ABS modular needed to be replaced. The dealer advised that the vehicle could be driven, but would have to be driven slow in inclement weather because the module failed. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 143,000. Updated 01/24/12 updated 01/25/12

Was going to Ford dealer for gas tank strap recall due to straps that have poor corrosion protection. As I was enroute to dealer I applied my brakes due to a car running a stop sign and my brakes gave way and I just missed a serious accident. I checked my brake line where the leak was and due to very poor rust the line blow out. I ask the dealer when performing the recall repair could he fix the line and was stated a $600 charge. While at the dealer I called Ford vp of customer service fred toney who then sent me to Mr. Fedders. I talked to a person from his office and told them that Ford has a big problem on brake lines rusting and because of that I just missed having a serious accident. I ask Ford to fix the linings at no charge and take the line for observation. I was told that since the truck is 10 years old and has 200,000miles on it they will not do anything. I stated that Ford has no problem repairing the gas straps of a 10 year old truck. Anyway had my truck towed to my mechanic and repaired. They replaced the front lines and intermediate brake lines due to poor corrosion. I was told my passenger side line and both rear lines are in great shape, no rust and coated. I told Ford about this and said I want a Ford rep to inspect my coated brake lines. And my defected line which I kept for proof. I ask Ford why some line were coated and some were not. I was told that Ford does not coat the lines. We have a serious problem here and could result in many deaths. If the other lines were coated I would have not had this problem. Ford just wrote this whole thing off. I expect NHTSA to get back to me as soon as possible. I expect my truck to be inspected and the line that I have kept to be inspected. I am now notifying NHTSA and Ford has been notified about this problem and is on record in the event nothing is done and people get killed the parties will have a problem.

A 2000 F150 4X4 with four wheel ABS. My mother was driving the truck and when she parked in her driveway she heard a steady low toned clicking sound from under the hood. She called her neighbor over to look in fear of not knowing what the unusual sound was. He found the noise was coming from the ABS control unit under the hood and that it was extremely hot. He burned his fingers disconnecting the electrical harness from the unit. The noise stopped and the ABS (amber) light is on with the wires unplugged. This is all at the same time my '01 mustang GT bullit had a major problem with its ABS system, ref.ODI #10361861 as previously submitted. I haven't had the system checked but thought it odd that both vehicles had overly expensive ABS malfunctions at the same time.

I was traveling in neutral, downhill, at about 40mph through a shallow turn as I was exiting a highway. When I put the truck in 4th gear to accelerate, I had no power. The tachometer was at zero and I tried to turn on the hazard lights and begin braking, both failed to work. I had no lights or any other electrical power (it was daylight) I downshifted and turned to ease off the road, I had no power steering, then the steering wheel locked. I halted the truck with the E brake once I was slow enough and on the edge of the road. I tried to restart it several times but nothing would happen. The truck had zero electrical power. After about 15 minutes it started back up as if nothing was wrong. When I got it to john elway Ford in denver co, the mechanics said the computer didn't log any errors and there was nothing they could do. I contacted Ford and they refused to do anything. I contacted the BBB and they just reiterated Ford policy. The problem has never been fixed since no one can find the reason for it. It has happened one other time to me in 2007 (I think).

My son was involved in an accident on 4/22/2010 while driving a 2000 Ford F-150 4X2 two door pickup truck. Side marks at the scene revealed that the F-150's anti-lock brakes did not engage causing the truck to slide resulting in a failure to stop in time to avoid the accident. The air bag did not deploy after the front-end impact and the seatbelt did not lock causing my son to be thrown forward heating his head on the sun visor and snapping his head backward rolling his face into the roof of the truck and injuring his neck. He also bruised some ribs on the steering wheel and jammed several fingers. The seatbelt did keep him from being ejected from the vehicle but by not engaging, caused unnecessary injuries. Had he been driving at a higher rate of speed at the time of the impact he injuries would have been far more serious and even life threatening. We purchased this F150 on 1/19/2010 from the city of mount juliet, tn. The vehicle was well maintained by the city according to the vehicle maintenance records. We request to have a non-partial expert examine the vehicle to determine the cause of the safety features failure to deploy on this vehicle.

Strong vehicle vibration during brake application, especially during down hill braking. Called corning Ford dealership, where I bought truck new. They refused to honor any warranty work on brake problems with that many miles on truck. Called customer 800# - they also refused repair coverage. Took truck to schwab tire in redding, ca.( it's thirty+ miles to schwab tire from my home. It?S almost eighty miles one way to corning Ford from my house.)schwab tells me that vehicle vibration on brake application indicates warped rotors. After five trips to scwab tire for rotor turns, then completely replacing all four rotors....nothing stopped vibration. By now the vibration is much more severe than when it first started. During the whole history, from 43,958 miles to the present 74,762 the vibration/shaking has never gone totally away. The last thing schwab did was replace all four sets of brake pads, even though they didn't need it. By then schwab was completely out of ideas. I finally took the truck to corning Ford, hoping it was possibly covered under my extended warranty. It was. Corning Ford service manager, steve lowery, sat me down and explained to me what was wrong!!! Ford Motor Co. Refuses to admit they have a design flaw in their brake system. Corning Ford does not deny there's a problem with the braking design. First, the ball joints wore out. Then, and more important, the problem is the front wheel hubs/backing plates are totaly sealed after assembly. There isn't any way to lubricate/service the bearings at regular intervals. The seals eventually dry out and the bearing lubricant/grease seeps on to the hub assembly on only the inboard brake pad. This then means that during brake application, the inboard pad is slipping and only the outside pad is applying pressure to the rotor. The outside rotor is having to work harder to stop the vehicle and is creating unnecessary heat on the rotor, thus warping the rotor.

On going problem with the vehicle vibrating. The consumer stated after disengaging the emergency brakes on several occasions and then proceeded to drive for 10 miles or more, the vehicle vibrated when the brakes applied.
