I went fishing one early morning and I stopped for gas and noticed that my lights would not turn off. I normally keep the switch in the auto-detect mode. I switched to off and they still would not turn off. After getting to the dock, I turned off the motor and locked it. My F-150's headlights would not turn off and would blink on and off. The switch would not work, nor did locking the vehicle turn off the lights. I expected the battery saver would activate to turn off the exterior lamps. It also failed. The battery died and I had to be towed into the dealer. Dealer states it was a wiring harness (#12, #160 and #161) that shorted a relay and killed the battery. The parts were not covered under warranty. Parts and labor were $612.

Vehicle had approx. 60K miles. Was parked in driveway for about one half hour. Neighbor saw fire on the ground under the drivers side of the engine compartment toward the rear(firewall). Cruise control quit working about 2 weeks prior to the fire. Fire origin is in vicinity of brake master cylinder. Typical of cruise control deactivation switch failure. Parts were recovered but aluminum band on hexport body was melted away therefore do not have date code.

While the vehicle was under warranty it experienced problems with the turn signal. The technician stated that they replaced the wiring harness but it was too short. Currently without warranty the vehicle experienced the same problem. The vehicle had been taken to the same dealer who stated that the wiring harness was too short. The wiring harness was too short when the tilt wheel was down and the turn signals did not work.
