The contact owns a 2002 Ford F-150. While walking past the vehicle, the contact noticed a strong odor of fuel. The contact discovered that the fuel tank straps were corroded and created a hole in the fuel tank, which caused fuel to leak from the tank. The contact was informed by the dealer that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 11V385000 (fuel system, gasoline) but the remedy could not be performed at the time due to the corrosion of the fuel tank. Throttle body linkage "plastic cover clamshell" cracked in half at plastic hinge (oxidized plastic). Loose plastic cover wedged open throttle fully causing "dangerous life threatening" driving stuck at full throttle. I have the cover and photos if you want me to send them.

The rear portion of the frame is rotten to the point that the let springs hangers are ready to break off the frame and the spare tire holder is also ready to fall off. I just replaced the rear spring shackles due to the were also rotten and broke. The gas tank straps were also a problem due to rust but Ford though enough of the problem there was a recall on that, Toyota had a problem with rusted frames and did a massive recall on that issue. Why hasn't Ford done the same thing" the frame should be the last thing one needs to worry about with any vehicle. The truck currently has 146000 miles and now we need to figure out what the next move will be with this vehicle. Repair it, junk it or trade it ????"

The contact owns a 2002 Ford F150. The contact was driving 35 mph when the ignition caught on fire and melted the area where the ignition key was located. The contact merged onto the shoulder as the fire independently diminished. The contact received burns to the fingers. He then attempted to reinsert the key into the ignition however, to no avail. The vehicle was pushed to the contact's residence and later towed to the dealer. The dealer informed the contact that the ignition would need replacing. The contact also received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 11V385000 (fuel system, gasoline: Storage: Tank assembly: Mounting) for corrosion of one or both of the fuel straps. The contact stated that the dealer would not repair the vehicle under the recall but was not advised as to why. The manufacturer was notified who offered no assistance and could not provide a reason why the dealer would not repair the vehicle under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 101,000.

The fuel tank had been leaking fuel ever since the repair. The contact stated that the leak was caused by the straps being taken off and replaced. The contact felt that the manufacturer should be obligated to repair the fuel take in addition to repairing the fuel tank straps. The failure mileage and current mileages were 130,556.

Driving with two kids in truck hear bumping sound pull over strap broken and gas coming out of tank get home call seabreeze Ford hes aware of problem get it their said gas tank strap rusted to the fuel tank so when strap broke it ripped a hole in fuel tank he also said could not have done a replacement on strap because it already bonded to tank rusted together Ford will only pay for straps at this time service man even the said faulty straps breaking ripped the hole in the tank lucky no fire how can they not accept a caused B bad straps caused ripped hole in gas tank.

I received a recall on my Ford F-150 pickup, replace fuel tank straps. I called and made a appointment. When I got to the dealership, they took my truck to the service department. They informed me, they didn't have the parts to repair it. It was unsafe to drive, but wanted me to sign a waver, which would hold me accountable, if the straps broke, and caused an accident.they wanted me to drive the truck home!! I had to leave the truck at the dealership. I wasn't going to drive a dangerous truck home? this is Friday, they won't have the parts until Tuesday to fix it. What a pain!!! they wouldn't even give me a rental to drive, they had to drive me home!!

Fuel tank straps failed while driving resulting in the tank dropping. The front of the tank contacted the road surface resulting in a leak and spilling of approximately 21 gals of fuel on the road. No fire resulted but the hazmat team was required to clean up the spilled fuel. The 2002 F 150 was towed to a Ford dealer for repair.

I was traveling on rt. 64 heading East toward rt 59 in West Chicago when I suddenly heard a thud followed by a scraping noise coming from what I first thought was the bed of my 2002 F150. I pulled off the road to check and didn't see anything wrong from the suspected area. I drove a little longer and when the noise wasn't stopping, I pulled over again and noticed one of the brackets holding my gas tank was dragging and the front half of my gas tank was on the ground. The bracket was rusted through and fallen away on one side. I was absolutely shocked at this problem because I had just had my truck in the shop a few months before and there was no mention of any rust issue with the bracket from the shops I had been in. I had the fuel pump and filter replaced in Jan. 2010 and there was no mention of rust issues with the bracket then.
