On a trip to Mesquite Nevada which is about 3 hours from my house, about an hour and a half into the trip, we started experiencing this strange noise that was kind of a whine with a loud clunking/slapping sound. Pulled over to find my transmission mount was broke. I knew I didn't have far to get to a parts store, so I gently hobbled it to the store. Got the new mount put it on and off we went.
And we're back on the road. Get on the freeway hit 85mph, when there's this horrific noise. We are coasting onto the off ramp, like anyone else I throw a couple of revs just to see if were gonna go anywhere, and the only things going any where are the tach and the speedo simultaneously might I add. We don't make it up the off ramp hill but about half way, was great because it was a large dirt area.
After calling my Daughter to grab the car dolly and come rescue us, I get out and start checking things out everything looks fine. So frustrated I get back in with my wife and our friend and we all start bouncing things off each other trying to come up with possibilities. Yeah right not one for this so for the heck of it cause we had lights on. I started the truck and put it in gear and viola, movement in all gears so slowly we take off and drive to the nearest gas station to wait for my daughter.
Looking at it some more while waiting, I was less than a quart shy of fluid so I topped it off, but still with no ideas on what happened we, drop slowly home with my daughter right behind. What took 1 1/2 hours to get to where we were took 3 1/2 hours to get ,because I didn't want to push it. Plus, to me it sounded like we were stuck in 4 low.
Waited til Monday called the warranty company and the mechanic he picked it up on Tuesday and his associate put the OBD2 on her and had no idea of what had anything to do with what had happened. Everyone I knew, and myself, thought transmission or transfer case. Its saying o2 sensors. WHAT? yep and a bunch of other garbage. HUH what? ok, well, the mechanic went to check it out and run it again later that day and that interior lights started flickering and the gauges were flipping back and forth as if the truck was running and someone was revving it, but it wasn't even on the keys were on the dash.
Scratching his head he closed the door went to get a tool of some kind and came back to the truck opened the door again and no lights no nothing at all so he again closed the door got the charger put it on the truck and went home for the night. Came in and took it off the charger and went and ran the codes. Here we go again, nothing again to do with what had happened so he went to the sources tranny and transfer case them selves and my transfer case it completely shot. So we have to wait til tomorrow for the warranty company to come in to see what they will cover. keep a look out there's more problems to be written.

2002 Ford F150 super crew cab 5.0 engine. First transmission went out within 10,000 miles of having transmission serviced. New transmission installed by dealer for more than $3000.00. Now this transmission has failed with the same problem. Waiting to find out how much it will cost to repair this time. This will be the third transmission for this vehicle. Told service advisor I would probably be getting rid of the truck and find a different brand. Just found out it is going to cost $3827.28 to repair and they won't even take off the $105.00 to diagnose the problem. May get it fixed somewhere else.
