problem #415

F-150 XLT 4.6L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

I have had both my rear regulators go out. I heard that signature pop that scared the heck out of be as it sounded like a big pebble hitting my car. Then I saw how the window started to roll down by itself. I cannot even find that parts for it anywhere so I have the window repair lock the rear windows and unplug the regulator. THESE NEED TO BE FIXED. NOT EVEN THE DEALER HAS THESE PARTS! WTF!!!!!!

This was the first of 3 windows that have gone bad on me! I dont remember the date exactly, but I had to manually push up my passenger side, back seat window. I have a supercrew. I finally got fed up and put some heavy duty cardboard inside the door to hold the window up. before that it would slowly work its way down as I drove anywhere.

I too have the same problems with the windows my first encounter was in 08'at 67,000. I am now at 74,000 miles all 4 have now dropped. I had the driver window fixed while I lived in Washington in 08' 235$ wasn't bad then but now the other 3 are broken and there is no way in hell I'm giving Ford anymore of my money ever. this should be an issue that needs to be addressed with a recall from them. My truck will be paid off and sold this year hopefully the rest of it stays together until then.

After reading all the complaints about this window regulator failing and Ford not wanting to take care of this defect, I think everyone who has had this problem should file a class action suit to force Ford into fixing this obvious defective part. Does anyone know a lawyer who wants to take this case?

F-150 XLT Supercrew 5.4L Triton V8

I love my F150 but this issue is a real pain in the ass. I was putting the driver's window down when I heard a metallic "bang" inside the door, followed by the window sliding down into the door. On trying to roll it back up all I get is the sound of the power window motor grinding away. This is the fourth time I've experienced this problem, once on each power window. Past experience is that the 2004-05 models were made with a defective power window regulator assembly, with the defect being corrected on the 2006 models. It costs over $450 to fix it. Ironically, the driver's window is the one that gets used the most but it was the last to give out. The first one I paid for myself, figuring it was a freak occurrence, but the last two times I called Ford Motor Co. and they compensated me about 2/3 of the repair cost. The Nat'l Highway Transportation & Safety Admin website is loaded with complaints about this issue, but since it isn't a safety concern no recall has ever been issued. Ford knows about it but I think it's time they stepped up and fixed it at no cost to the owners. Lucky I live in SoCal where the weather is such that I can drive around with the window down but I feel sorry for the folks who live where it rains or snows a lot and have to rig up a tarp or something to get by until they get the repair done.

Well if you want to fix the problem then I would suggest to not buy the part form the dealership. I was quoted 274.98 to get the part from Ford but I found the same part at Auto Zone for 132.99 and it has a lifetime warranty on it. I am upset that Ford wont fix it for free but I'm still a Ford man and I still think they make the best trucks around and every car company has problems with their vehicles on some scale and this is really minor in comparison to some other problems that could have happened. I will order the part today and put it in later this week if anyone has any questions on how it went I can let you know after that. thanks.

F-150 Lariat 5.4L V8

Bought this truck new in 2004. Driver's side window regulator went out in 2008. Passenger side window regulator just went out yesterday (2010). From what I've read online this is clearly a defective part for which Ford should take responsibility. Apparently I can expect to keep replacing window regulators for as long as I choose to keep this vehicle, but you can bet I won't invest in another Ford product. The right thing to do would be for Ford to recall and replace all the defective window regulators with a more reliable regulator.

I was driving along and BAM a loud noise followed by my driverside front window slowly creeping down. I quickly pushed the up switch and SLAM! my window fell straight down into the door. This is my 3rd one (out of 4) that has happened in the last 2 months. I can't get the window up with the switch at all. Plus I can't even get the window out of the door to get a temporary fix Ex.) duck tape!

The driver window can't be rolled down, the teeth of the piece that is broke was cheaply made by Ford. It is plastic instead of metal! It's @ 100 bucks to fix.Yet another problem Ford fails to step up to the plate for!

Common, stupid piece of junk. Make sure your new regulator has black plastic sliders, not the white ones that are broken on the one you're taking off.

I have already had two of these window regulators replaced, one drivers and one passenger. Now for the second time the passenger window has dropped into the door. It is now being held up with tape. The first time it happened was in 07. The second was in 08 and now again in 2010 All this and I still have less 30k miles on the truck. I WILL NOT BUY A FORD AGAIN!

Well this is the third window to fail. I went to the local dealer and gave them the chance to make it right. Not much cooperation, but will call a marker tomorrow. If this doesn't get taken care of by the dealer, I will not buy another vehicle there. I think the dealer needs to make it right, then get ford to pay them back.

I have already had three of these window regulators replaced and now they are borken again. I have vise grips holding up my windows. Ford is doing nothing about it either. I will not pay them again to get these fixed they want over 500 per window such a rip off. The best part about it is that they wont release the license for other manufacturers to make the replacement parts because they know there is a problem with the parts and they assume that they will continue to make money off the defective parts. What a bunch of ASSHOLES there.

F-150 Triton V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

after several phone calls I was confident the prob was the regulator. I decided to get on Web to see if could possibly fix myself & was surprised at all the complaints. Same problem, many times & how many people are totally disgusted with the way Ford "IS NOT" handling the problem.

I was in the Hill Country & was ~25F when my window quit & fell. I used my Leatherman to pull window up & jammed it with cardboard. This held it up till I forgot & hit window button causing it to fall again while I was doing 70+ on way back to Houston. I had to stop & pull up & jam again. My wife was not too happy, Lol.

Anyhow I'm going to try to fix myself & save $450.

Update from Mar 10, 2010: O'Reilly's got me a replacement regulator & motor for approx $110. It's much better built than factory reg. was in truck. No plastic clips. In about 3 hrs my son & I replaced. All's good. Now that I've seen how the factory reg.is built I'm afraid to use my other windows too much for they will fail.

Update from Apr 15, 2011: Since replaced 1st failure have had 2 others fail with one to go yet. I replaced driver front window regulator also & then 2-3 months later the left rear window fell while driving home from a meeting. I have it held in place for now with wood shims. When I get the motivation will replace both rear window regulators and be done with it.
