This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
Only noticed it when tying a load on the rack, paint was all gone, and roof was rusted. Truck was 4-5 years old.

This F150 bought new in 2005 has been a good truck and I am glad I got the extended warranty to cover some problems that manifested themselves after 36K miles. One such problem was the driver's side window falling back into the door and needing a new motor and arm attachment.
My current problem with paint blistering on the aluminum hood has been documented with other Ford owners. I went to the local Ford dealer and asked if they had any Technical Service Bulletins covering this defect of blistering paint. With a negative reply, they sent me to the paint and auto body service center. The estimate was over $500 to repaint the entire hood and apply clear coat. I have not had it repaired.
I am not a happy camper after being the owner of a 1986 F150 that lost paint on all parts of the cab and side panels. Why do I keep buying Fords!?

Same old Ford Paint issue everyone else is having.....The truck, usually the hood, corrodes under the paint causing blistering.....
What is it with Ford and crappy paint this has been going on for years......
They have had tons of paint issues dating back to the Ford Bronco 2 days...
The way to fix this is sand down the hood spray it with some good PPG epoxy DP 401 primer and refinish with good clear coat....Painting a car is not rocket science Ford...If the crap EPA friendly paint doesn't work stop using it......
I have to say I have always owned Fords but my 2005 Ford F150 has the famous rear end slipping issue, I had the window fall into the door costing me the 700 bucks to fix....and of course this paint issue is starting to get bad...
I think I'm going to try a GMC truck next time and see if GM is any better....

This looks like the same problem Ford had years ago with the silver paint The white paint is pealing off the hood and shows the primer underneath

The bumpers on the vehicle started showing signs of rust almost immediately after taking delivery. They were obviously not done correctly - Try getting Ford to admit that would be a certain waste of time given their current commitment to customers.

This problem started as a small crack in the roof paint now there has to be ten cracks the longest being over a foot long and there is five areas where the paint has bubbled and then peeled up allowing rust to form. I do not feel this is just a paint problem I think it is a problem with roof flex due to the factory sunroof this truck interor is loaded with noises bumps and rattles. I am taking it in to dealer for repairs july 30 the need it for a week I will report with findings after repairs

I have a black 2005 Ford F150 STX Supercab with only 42,000 miles. For a few years, the paint on the roof has significantly oxidized and looks terrible when standing in the doorway of the truck; but it is not noticeable from the ground. At less than 40,000 miles, two bubbles appeared on the left rear quarter panel, above the wheel.
A couple of months ago, the bubbles started leaking rust. Since then the bubbles are increasing in size at an alarming rate. I've gotten a couple of estimates thus far and was told that the entire quarter panel needs to be cut out, replaced, and painted. They also mentioned that trucks, especially Ford F150's are notorious for developing major rust, but not like the ones I have. The quarter panels are rusting from the inside and are only going to get worse. The rest of the truck is in superb condition. So, I can either pay to repair it now or take a hit when selling or trading the truck in. I take good care of my vehicles and have no dings or major scratches on any of my 3 vehicles.
A call to Ford corporate customer service only yielded an apology but I was told that I am outside the 5-year window for compensation of paint issues. So my next task is to go the dealership that I purchased the truck from in 2005 and ask them for an estimate and a break on the cost.
