2005 Ford F-150 with ameritac TR OWL tires has a disintegrating sidewall. Customer states tire manufacturer referred to the problem as run flat which caused the tire to fail. Inspection of the tire prior to sending it to the manufacturer showed that there was no indications of punctures or holes in the tire tread over the range of the tread pattern including the remainder of the intact sidewall. The tire bead was intact and not damaged on both the inner and outer sidewalls, although the outer sidewalls had disintegrated and mostly missing. There was no indication of a long term wear pattern due to under inflation. Examination of the tire after the failure showed the outer sidewall reinforcing piles were missing and the tire failure was potentially the result of a defect in the tire.
