About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-150. The contact heard a popping sound and noticed smoke under the hood and dashboard when the vehicle was started. The noise sounded as if the vehicle backfired. While driving 55 mph, the power brakes failed without warning. The contact applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and pulled off the road. He noticed that the vacuum hose was detached from the manifold, which supplies vacuum power to the brake booster. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealer. The dealer placed the vacuum hose back on the engine and informed the contact that it should be replaced. The weather was not a factor. The current mileage was 23,000 and failure mileage was 22,000. Complete power brake failure.I turned on my engine, heard a loud popping sound, drove forward a few feet and discovered the power brakes inoperable. No warning lights came on before or after the incident. I took the vehicle to the nearest Ford dealership --olympic Lincoln Mercury seattle-- and they repaired it under warranty. They said a poor connection of a pressure line under the fuel rail caused the problem. They said no recalls had been issued. They had no explanation for why the warning lights did not come on. This incident happened approximately 4 months ago. I don't have the paperwork in hand. If needed I can provide the exact date. The date above is a questioned. Olympic Lincoln Mercury has changed hands, it is now jack carrols Lincoln Mercury. This sudden loss of brakes without warning could have been disastrous. My son was with me.
