The pickup will not start frequently. Sometimes the truck is hot, sometimes cold, sometimes it won't start after sitting overnight and sometimes it won't start after driving for a while. There is no apparent pattern. I had it at a Ford dealership's service department for over two weeks and they could not find the problem. I have had it since at two different mechanics (for almost two months) one of which had previously worked for Ford for over 25 years. The only way to start it is to either jump across the starter or let it sit for days until it decides to start. They have reportedly ruled out the starter, neutral safety switch, ignition switch, and all other electrical components. I have spent about $800 and been without the truck for over two months.

The day my truck was returned from having a new transmission installed, it failed to start. I tried having it jumped with no success, and ended up having to have it towed back to the shop that had just repaired the transmission. The tow trucker attempted to start it as well with no success. At the shop, the mechanic attempted to start it on the tow truck to confirm the issue; it started immediately. They started it over 100 times over two days with absolutely no issues and were unable to find any codes in the computer. The shop discharged the truck, but over the following months, it continued to have issues starting on a completely irregular basis. I finally had a new battery installed, but this didn't help. I took it to Auto Zone last week and had the battery/starter tested. Even though the truck started, it produced a code saying the starter failed. I figured I'd come back in a couple days to buy a starter; it refused to start again the next day and I took it back to Auto Zone. This time it said the alternator failed but the starter was fine; a few seconds later it said the alternator was fine as well. The truck went back to the shop the next day for new apparent transmission issues, but the truck has started just fine over the past few days in the shop. No codes have showed, and no known solution.
