F-150 FX2 5.4L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 66,186 miles

Bought this '08 F150 new in '07 and has been driven like a baby as only having 66k miles in almost 10 years would indicate. Dropped the transmission pan and it's full of metal shavings! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! No way should this transmission need to be being rebuilt. Amazing how many complaints about the transmission in these trucks yet once again the corporate giant crushes the consumer like the cockroaches that we are. I paid a lot of $ for this truck and have you seen the price of new trucks today. 66,000 miles and done. Sad.

Bought this truck as a salvage rebuilt. Transmission routinely seemed to slip around 26 - 28 mph, when gradually depressing the accelerator. Discovered there was a computer update from FORD, and that solved the problem..

When cruising around at low, steady speed, approx. 50km/hr, RPM's suddenly surge, slight hesitation, then goes back to normal (tranny). After reading the complaints on this website, I see Tranny's are an issue & I suspect mine is another problem child. Currently 62000 km on truck. Will be contacting Ford to discuss. Will keep you posted

Ford F-150, the prize vehicle of Ford needing a tranny overhaul at 15,000. Unacceptable. My transmission began slipping and finally lost overdrive at about 15,000 miles. I took the vehicle in about two weeks before the tranny work for a standard oil change and complained about it then. Tranny fluid was full. The next two weeks were filled with a transmission that would not consistently shift into the proper gear. I took it in and the problem was a blown out transmission seal between the tranny and transfer case allowing fluid to pass between the two units. This in turn caused the main bearing and oil seal to go out. I bought a Ford over a Chevy to avoid these problems. Never again. Ford F-150's are underpowered and poorly built. 2010 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel is the future for me.

F-150 XLT 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,500 miles

The problem started around December 2008, 1 year after delivery of truck. I reported the problem to the dealer on March 20th and the First available appointment with the tranny guy was April 20th. I called the service manager and complained they took it for a test drive on March 26, not 2 blocks from the dealership the transmission slipped. It seems more like a neutral drop. I still have to wait until April 20th before any repair work will begin
