problem #3

F-150 5.4L 8 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

Radio would not start to play when starting vehicle until sometime after traveling a short distance. This time lag between start-up of vehicle and hearing audio from radio increased until I traveled at least one mile or more before the radio started to play. Eventually, the radio audio fell silent forever; however, the radio was powered and selection of stations could be made and displayed on radio screen, but alas without a sound to be heard. . Earlier visits to dealer were a waste of my time and money. No resolution to the initial problems was arrived at. I am totally disappointed with the service provided to me by a local dealership when I had them service the vehicle for the initial 2 problems.

F-150

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,826 miles

the speakers started crackling and popping randomly, driving or stopped.

They then would sop working altogether BUT would sometimes come on and off. this was happening to EACH speaker at different times so the sound was shifting around the truck cab like someone was playing with the balance and fade controls.

Several radio software re-boots were tried but it didn't help. HOWEVER, it was found that water was getting into all four doors through the windows (so the repair guy said) and corroding the speaker contacts. all have been changed and dielectric grease applied but it is beginning again now four months since last repair.

F-150 XLT 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,300 miles

Radio randomly does the following at start-up;

1) Sometimes resets clock.

2) Sometimes erases station settings.

3) Sometimes erases custom settings and A or B or A/B.

4) Right channel shorts out and then comes back on at least 2 - 3 times a week.

5) Volume sometimes comes on at 7 or 8 double bars at start-up. Very loud! (5 double bars is loudest I've had it for listening)
