The paint is peeling away from the primer in several places, including the top edges of the sides of the truck box near the edge of the plastic, and also in the channel that runs alongside the windshield A-pillar. Tha paint seems very thin, and does not appear to be a basecoat/clearcoat type of paint, as there is no indication of a clear-coat presence.

About 9 months after purchasing my 2010 F-150 single cab XL at the end of the model year I was doing a spring wash and wax and discovered that the rocker panels, cab corners and box/bed outside corners were bare of paint and rust was appearing. The dealer arranged to have it painted. and it looked fine.

Less than a year later the same thing occurred but this time the fender edges were included. The dealer once again arranged to have it painted under warranty.

By the 3rd spring all of the fender edges, the rocker panels, the bottom door edges, the windshield frame and around the bed rail (where the edge of the plastic bed rail caps abrade the paint were starting to chip and/or peel. Unfortunately, despite this being a recurring problem, the 60,000km warranty on such things was up (by a couple thousand km) so there was no manufacturer support to deal with the issue. I decided not to incur the approximately $5000 repair expense. Now I drive a rust bucket. My very last Ford rust bucket.

The cost of painting is about equal to the increased depreciation so I'd have been no further ahead getting it repaired.

In the past I'd usually get about 10 years from a new vehicle and I was planning on the same. This one has lasted only four (and a bit) years and is now not worth putting new tires on. At a depreciation cost of cost of more than $6000 per year over 4 years (based on trade-in value) this has been a very expensive lesson.

I purchased this truck brand new with the clear coat. I keep my truck very clean, dry, and waxed. The bubbling along the front of the hood by the grill is very unsightly. I took it to the dealer and was told it would not be covered under the warranty because of the miles I drive, even though it is well under the years. This is a defect that I feel ford should pay for regardless of the warranty. I have found that it is a very common problem on these trucks. I have always owned Fords and will not buy another one if this is not addressed. I will also post my pictures all over the internet to let unsuspecting new customer know how Ford treats their faithful followers.

RUST!! My 2010 F150 rocker panels started rusting at 30,000 kms. Took it back to the dealer and was told to bring it back at 58,000 kms so we could catch it under warranty?? Oh, and replaced front chrome tow hooks, rusted.

9 months later paint was falling off and rusting even worse. Had it done again. This time including the bottom of the tail gate and paint was falling off the F-150 logo on the tail gate. And replaced the front tow hooks again. Rust. At this point the body shop manager told me that was it, he's not painting it again. Nice service EH!

That was 14 months ago. It's all come back in a bad way. Now the cab is rusting out at the bottom where it meets the box. Coming problem I've heard with no come back from Ford. It wouldn't so bad if the truck was like 10 years old or something, but at 4 years old!!!

I'm a small business owner and a clean nice looking truck says something about the clean and tidy work I'm going to do in their home. A rusted out piece of s**t doesn't really do it.

the paint on lower part of door is flacking off

When I opened my driver's side door I noticed the paint on the lower portion of the interior side of the door was peeling away (it was down to bare metal) When I ran my finger across the area the paint that had not peeled away flaked off. On inspecting the passenger door the same issue was noticed. Trying to resolve with dealer and Ford. It seems strange that the paint is not binding with the metal. Seems the paint issue is now migrating around the bottom edge of the door to the exterior of the door.
