problem #2

Nov 172012

F-150 XLT 3.5L V6 Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,500 miles

So far to date there have been 28 condensation events on my truck, with the major hydro lock event with only 9,200 miles. Around 12,200 the dealer did the second engine rebuild and on the very first trip from Houston to Dallas with 12,500 miles the cats clogged up again – third time now for the cats. Now it only gets 16-17mpg on the highway and about 12mpg in town driving very conservative. Ford has no solution for this very serious and dangerous problem.

problem #1

Aug 152012

F-150 XLT 3.5L V6 Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,250 miles

Trip from Houston to Dallas, at dew point for whole trip, in a cold rain, with a cold front and temp drop of 60 degrees. After stopping for pit stop, attempted to enter freeway at normal speed, engine hydro locked, with the noise it made either a part of the piston skirt broke off or a rod bent just enough to make a banging sound. The rear axle locked for a micro second and then the computer released the torque converter. In the one second nearly lost control of the truck. Exceptionally dangerous.

Ford was and is unable to resolve the problem, fix it, or honor the warranty.
