I bought a Ford 150 XLT 3.7 engine in 2011. Told by the dealer truck mileage is 36 MPH/HWY,( in print also ) This truck doesn't even come close to this mileage, more like 26 MPH. Went to dealer, said needs to be broken in, went to 6000KM, still no better, in fact worse at times. I have tried to be gentle with acceleration, traveling around 60 MPH, over hours on HWY, but never the less this truck still average 25-26 MPH. This is so wrong by Ford to show this mileage in their advertising. I bought this truck on the basis of mileage over GM and Chrysler. This is my first Ford and will be my last. Ford desn't seem to give a darn.

I've had multiple problems with this truck since I bought. Like other reviewers, I'm getting nowhere near the mileage advertised. I average 14.2 MPG combo driving. I did get around 21 MPG on a couple of road trips early on, but haven't been able to duplicate that as the vehicle has "broken in". It's been to the local dealer a handful of times & it's back in again this weekend for another round of testing. If the advertised mileage is NOT typical, then Ford shouldn't be making such a frikken' big deal about.
The engine is loud at start up (especially on cold days - it sounds like a diesel engine) I'm told that this is normal - that the V6 has noisy fuel rails. As requested, I'll list all of the problems separately so that it may prevent someone from buying into the Ford hype about this truck.
BTW, this is my 2nd Ford truck. I also most recently owned a Toyota Tundra. Both had similar mileage to the EcoBoost with a hell of a lot more power/gitty up!

Was one of the first people in town to purchase one of the new ecoboost f-150's. Boy, did they do a good job advertising this truck's fuel mileage... Haha! If you fell for it too I feel your pain. I'm lucky to get 16mpg on the hwy and in the city the best I could get was 12-13mpg. And boy doesn't it just piss you off when you see the commercials after you bought one. Took to dealer and they said theirs nothing wrong with it and that I needed to wait till the break-in period was done. I laughed and said that this is a classic example of false advertisement. He didn't like that too well. I believe that the truck will never achieve the stated mpg. Buyers beware! If you don't care about mileage I guess this might be the truck for you.

I have 17,000 miles on an F150 FX4 eco-boost v6.
It has NEVER, NEVER, NEVER gotten the gas mileage Ford and the EPA guessed at on the window sticker. I average about 14 mpg, period. Where's my 16 to 22 as promised in the TV ads and the sales literature? Oh - it's a classic bait and switch sale. The dealer says to drive 55 mph with no load (it's a freakin truck!) and with cruise control on and I might hit 17 or 18. Really? I will get killed by other drivers going 55 in to their driveways!
For a list price of $45,145 - Ford shouldn't have to lie about the mpg it's supposed to get.
10 years ago I had a BMW that weighed the same as this truck and got 29 mpg on the road and 22 in town. No THAT was a car! Ford can't do it unless the car is made out of recycled milk jug plastic and sized for pre-teen children.
FTC are you listening? Ford should pay a fuel penalty to all the owners of the vehicles that don't do what they are advertized to do - or be forced to pay the difference in mpg to the owner that got sucked in to this deal.
Is it a strong engine? oh yeah it is. It's strong, but if you pull a 5200 lb travel trailer you get 6 1/2 mpg. I wonder what kind of mpg I'd get if I really tried to max it out like the commercials show. 1 or 2 mpg? Oh, and you better hope for a tail wind, or mileage just might be less!!!
List price of $45,145 and I don't even get full leather on the seats. I get "leather inserts" and vinyl - yes, vinyl on the rest of the seat. What is this 1972? Wish it was, cars were $3,000 to $4,000 were not designed on computers, had actual metal in them, created jobs for Americans, AND got the same mileage we get today.
Do NOT buy F150's if you want good mileage. I sure wish I hadn't. I should have seen the problem right off the bat. The problem is shown in a blue oval in the middle of the grill.

This is for everyone that buy's a new car from Ford. They advertise an put it in big letters saying how many mile these f-150's get per gallon, DON"T BELEIVE them. I have a brand new F-150 and I drive mostly on the highway. I'm 42yrs old so I don't drive like a 18yr old. I'm only getting 15 miles per gallon, when Ford said I should be getting 17 on the street an 24 on the HWY. Never buy from City of Industry Ford, Bad Managment, bad service, and change thing on the paper work.
Does anyone else have this problem, so we can take this further.

I bought my F-150 new, it had 374 miles on it when I picked it up. Right out of the gate the mileage was poor. I started off with 17 mpg and now 4500 later I get 16 mpg. The dealer says it is still breaking in. After reading all the complaints I realize the poor mileage is an inherent problem with the ecoboost engine. My real issue is that Ford is perpetrating a fraud. Mu sticker rated gas mileage was 17-22 mpg. I am not close. The 16mpg that I get now is highway driving. Someone has to do something. One of the main reasons I bought this vehicle with the ecoboost engine was for the higher mpg rated by Ford. By the way, my vehicle is strictly for personal use, I am retired, no hauling.

My Ecoboost has never had good mileage. I've talked to the dealer and the answer was essentially that unless you are driving in ideal conditions at less than the speed limit, the advertised mileage is unattainable.

I have a '11 F150 with the Ecoboost. I am getting 12 MPG around town and 13.5 on the highway (instead of the 15 and 21 as advertised). Dealer looked at there were no codes and no TSB's the the vehicle. Blamed it on the winter weather. I could see a few less but this is ridiculous. I'm going to wait a few weeks and take it to another dealer. I got rid of a '97 F150 for this that was getting 9 MPG all the time. This was suppose to be better!
- the-mace, Lebanon, NH, US
When 1st purchased the mileage was in range, 15 city & 21 Highway. Mileage has dropped to 12.5 Average. This is bullshit especially when I have to watch the current advertisements on TV about the "Exceptional Mileage" the Eco-Boost Engine gets.
Way to many people being lied to! I haven't taken it back to the dealer yet but I am heading that way know.
The performance is good but the mileage is no way near what it is supposed to be.

COMMERCIALS AND VIDEOS FROM FORD SHOW ECOBOOST GETS 16/21 MPG, DREAM ON!! WE TOOK IT ON 1000 MILE TRIP AND GOT 12.7 MPG AND NOW ITS SKIPPING. THEY REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND SOMETHING ELSE. IT CONTINUES TO SKIP AND GETS HORRIBLE MPG. FORD REP WAS NOT HELPFUL AND SAYS MPG IS NOT AN ISSUE. I GUESS MISLEADING THE PUBLIC DOESN'T BOTHER THEM. ITS A SHAME, WE'VE BEEN DIEHARD FORD FANS AND BOUGHT ABOUT 10 NEW FORDS, THIS WILL PROBABLY BEEN MY LAST.

This 2011 Ford F150 Ecoboost gets very poor fuel milage. The window sticker states you should get 21 on HWY and 15 City. This truck only gets 16.6 HWY and 13 City. It was in the Ford Shop 4 times with no resolution. The Ford Rep. stated low milage was due too a tunnel cover on the bed, the Factory installed running boards and 20" wheels that came installed on the Lariat.
Ford states the case is closed. I offerd Ford to drive the truck for two weeks but the refused. I know other Ecoboost or getting there proper fuel milage, but this one does not. The Dealers suggested for me to keep complaining to help other customers.

transmission would not upshift and gas mileage poor.
This problem happened while I was towing a new 19ft 3500lbs travel trailer from Michigan to Florida. When I left Michigan I was getting about 14mpg, not great for a truck that can tow more than 8000lbs but acceptable. When i reached Kentucky the mpg was down to 10 or 11 mpg and the transmission seemed to get stuck in a lower gear after cresting a hill. I stopped at a Ford dealer to check the problem and they told me that they needed to reprogram the PCM. The problem got progressively worse after that. When I arrived in Florida my gas mileage was down to 7 to 8mpg and the truck tried to turn-in to every gas station along the road.
I took the truck to a Ford dealer to get it checked and the results were " INSPECTED TRUCK, MONITORED FUEL TRIMS, GOOD. CHECKED FOR CODES, NONE FOUND. TRUCK IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED."
I found my own solution to the problem. I sold my new trailer to a Silverado owner who is very happy with it and my gas mileage is back to about 20mpg average.
