The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 30 mph and attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel locked up to the left without warning. The contact managed to unlock the wheel. An independent mechanic stated that there was a recall. The manufacture was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The failure did not recur and was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

2011 Ford F150 XLT supercab 4X4 with 50,000 miles has problem with the electric power assist steering (epas) and Ford has been notified but refused to replace or assist with replacement and wants approximately $1600 to repair. Steering often becomes catchy and causes driver to jerk steering wheel to stay in lane while driving.

Electronic power steering (epsa) is leaking water and power steering fluid. It's making noises and I am scared to drive it since this is my main transportation for work and family. I've read about this issue and people saying their wheels have locked up and just missed fatal accidents especially doing higher speeds on highway travel. Is it going to take a death before this part is recalled? truck comes to a quick stop like its jumping gears.

Steering froze and I could not turn left. We were driving into town from the lake, pulling our boat. Began to notice the truck was not allowing me the adjust left and about 5 minutes later we could not turn left. I pulled as a hard as I could and could only move the wheel about 1 inch left. Next day the radio display screen said something about power steering system. I took the truck to mckie Ford in rapid city sd by driving only where I could turn right. Ford dealer replaced the steering gear and charged me $1500. And no guarantee the "new" epas gear box won't fail. Very frightening to be driving and not be able to move or turn left! and I see Ford has started recalling some of there vehicles with this same system. How can they recall some not all? in hindsight, there was a symptom for about 2 years: When driving through a left curve the truck would "buckle" or kick ever so slightly to the right as if the tie rod was loose. I took it to the Ford dealership a couple times and they were unable to tell me why it was doing that.

On Tuesday morning, December 27, 2016 just as I was pulling into the parking space at my office a light flashed on the panel and read "power steering fault" and all of a sudden I could not turn the steering wheel. I turned the engine off and waited about 2-hours before starting it again. Now the message read "service steering now". I contacted Ford's roadside assistance and they came the next day and towed my truck to upper marlboro Ford as they are down the street from my home. The service department said the steering rack needs to be replaced for a cost of $2000. Furthermore, that part is only available through Ford and I've now read where hundreds of other Ford F150 owners had the same problem.

Steering locks up while turning left or right while in motion on any road surface. Same problem we had with our other truck that is a one serial number off. With that truck the dealer needed to replace the rack and pinion assembly while under warranty. The truck had 15000 mile. This truck having problem now has 19,500 miles on it. The truck with the problem now is constantly having the steering locking up and is out of warranty now.

Steering lock up while driving. While making a sharp left turn in a parking lot the steering wheel locked up momentarily then became hard to turn. At the same time I heard a loud grinding or buzzing sound and the 'service advance trak' light came on. I had to have the car towed 150 miles to my mechanic. My mechanic conferred with the local Ford dealer and determined that the rack and pinion had to be replace. Truck has 57,000 miles on it. My mechanic expected the part to take up to a week to arrive but it was delivered the same day. Dealer had several units in stock. Seems strange to have that many of this P[art in stock unless there is a design or manufacturing flaw that Ford has not declared. I checked the F150 online forums and there are many references to this problem. Not sure what it takes to make a recall happen but given the seemingly high number of owners affected by this Ford should do something to help. This cost $1745 to fix (including tow) and created a very dangerous situation.

After sharp turns 'service advance trac' message appears and turn signals malfunction, dealer states sensor located in steering rack is bad and the entire rack must be replaced - vehicle has 35,000 miles and has been owned less than 60 months, but this part is not covered under drive train warranty. This failure and the manufacturer's disregard for the issue is unacceptable.

I started getting periodic warning lights to "service advance trac" on my 2011 F150. The warning would go away after restarting the vehicle once or twice. First time I thought it may be an glitch in the computer so didn't worry about it. After second time I took it to the dealer and was told it was a problem with the electronic steering module starting to fail. If it is not replace I could loose steering at any time without warning. I did some internet research and found this is indeed an issue with some Ford and people were having the power steering go out while driving. Being this is the primary vehicle used for family transportation I was worried. I called Ford as soon as my dealer told me the problem. Unfortunately their customer service dept. Is located in Florida and they were closed due to a hurricane. I had no choice but to have the dealer fix the problem and try an deal with Ford later. I called Ford today and they were unwilling to assist me with this issue, would not send/email me a copy of the case file notes detailing my discussion with the rep and referred me to the dealership service manager since the repairs have already been completed.

The electronic power steering fails intermittently. Most often it fails while in the process of turning left while in motion. When it fails, the steering goes to manual which makes it difficult to control the vehicle and complete the turn. It's very dangerous and could easily cause an accident or injuries.
