My F150 suddenly downshifted while driving 55 mph and nearly caused me to be in an accident. I did an online search and found a safety recall (19S07) for this problem. I called the local Ford service department to schedule an appointment for this recall. I was told first that my vehicle has too many miles to qualify for this fix. I was then told that the PCM software had already been done on my vehicle under this recall. I have owned this vehicle since the recall was first issued. I never heard about the recall and had no reason to search for recalls since I was having no real issues until now. Unless the PCM software was updated while the service department was doing other work for me, I have no idea how this fix could have already been done on my truck.
I was never told it had been done if this is the case. At any rate, I now have a known problem with my Ford. This problem was caused by Ford. It could cause injury or even death depending on when it happens again but Ford will not fix the real problem due to my truck having 208k miles. I see in online forums that the real problem has always been a defective bulk head connector that interferes with the OSS signal and not PCM software. There are also many reports that this is a lead frame issue and not the PCM software. Ford should be paying to fix this on my truck and all vehicles that experience this problem. I'm assuming I will be stuck with the burden of paying for this fix myself. If so, this will be the last Ford vehicle I ever own since they don't stand behind their product and fix their known issues.
