This truck was beautiful when i purchased it 2 years ago. since then the rust problem has become more than just grind it down and paint. This truck is to new to have this kind of a problem , I'm looking at thousands to have the back of the cab cut out and replaced. Its rusted out on both side of the truck behind the back door. This sucks ass!!!!!!!

excessive rusting excessive rusting excessive rusting excessive rusting

I have a 2012 Ford Truck which I must say I love. I noticed about a month ago the cab corners are rusting and the pain swelling. I went to Ford and was told I missed it being covered by the warranty a few month (2017). They said it is very common. So I went to a few body shops and all said it is extremely common.

The problem is caused by moisture getting in a place it cannot escape and sitting. It is not just on 2012 I was told but all models for years.

I get it things can break but this is a known issue Ford has done nothing to resolve, while selling the most popular truck in America. I think it should be considered a class action lawsuit if Ford will not resolve a known issue.

If I see enough individuals are interested with this same problem I will post contact information.

Update from Mar 12, 2018: I have written Ford asking them to honor the warranty as their service department told me to contact them in the spring to repair which resulted in the warranty expiring.

I also reached out to a lawyer who is very interested in conducting a class action lawsuit as many F-150's have this issue since 2008.

Update from Jul 26, 2018: I went round and round with ford until they seemed to not respond. Spoke to a few attorneys but non are willing to file suit unless it was a class action. Have not found anyone for a class action.

F-150 Platinum 5.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

My 2012 Ford F150 Platinum was only just a year old when rust started to appear on all 4 door sills and the tailgate hinges. I took the truck to a Ford Dealership who said there was nothing they could do. One of the mechanics stated that the door seal join was in the wrong place and that it was a design fault which Ford would not correct. I did not expect a $55,000 truck (which had been looked after) to start rusting after a year! Every time I took it back to Ford annually they fobbed me off until the 3 year warranty had expired. This truck had also been treated by Krown (Rust prevention under spray). Very disappointed with Ford - this with numerous other problems has put me off Ford - the build quality and backing is not there - not so Ford tough!!!
