On my way from Kankakee,Il. on Interstate 57---starting missing-then come out of it-didnt count how many times--pulled over several times--shut it off--waited a few seconds on some stops & minutes on others-stopped at 'rest stop' even longer---checked book---googled----finally made it to Tolono where my daughter lived---rested-cussed-----it finally went into "full limp mode" for the last 30 miles heading home----called Ford dealership & they asked me to drive it to Danville from Sidell---told them--"I don
t think it will make it-but I`ll see what I can do"---instead I called a licensed mechanic---closer to me & drove it to Hume,IL. or "limped it to Hume"--where he had it for at least 4 days or more
Actually-I put the wrong date on when it actually "limped home" his repair bill is dated 5/6/16 & I wrote in my owners book "throttle body replaced 5/10/2016----Part had to be ordered/shipped.
Being that the "mechanic" was also a friend----I know that he gave me a huge break on the labor---if I had gone to Ford Service ---it would be like 'buying another engine' or taking out a 'signature loan' !!!

Bought a used 2012 F150 King Ranch with just over 71,000 miles. It has the 3.5L ecoboost engine. I only had the truck for less than an hour and before I could get home from the dealer, the engine stopped accelerating and went into "limp home" mode. Fortunately, I was on a residential street. Once the truck sat overnight, everything returned to normal. It happened again the following day ( Thanksgiving Day) while on a highway. We decelerated from about 50 mph to 2mph, but we were able to pull onto the shoulder. We cycled the ignition several times over about a 10 minute period and we were able to drive it.
Took it back to the dealer on 11/25/16 and I was told the throttle body needed to be replaced and that this is a known issue on newer trucks, but not the 2012 model year. I have not been told what the cost will be or whether this will be covered by Ford. I wish I had found carcomplaints.com earlier.

IVE BEEN A FORD most of my life--but these new computerized Fords makes me want to go back 50+ years--2nd choice buy a different make with "better" guaranties/warranties-----<p> Loved the truck-until I had to start taking it to "dealers" to get the same old BS-dealers/service dept. & mechanics---"passing the buck"<p> IF I EVER buy another vehicle-I
m gonna think twice about a Ford truck--------------
Update from May 18, 2016: Was told by my "Ford" mechanic that the top radiator hose leaking & coolant was landing on the electronics of the "throttle body"-which caused it to go out/bad. The mechanic took it out & cleaned it-asap I`ll have it changed-just as soon as I recoup from my last bill. I have had trouble with the coolant & I couldn
t find the leak.

While driving our Ford F-150, we suddenly experienced a loss of power on a 4-lane highway and the "wrench" symbol appeared on the dash screen. We drifted off to the shoulder of the highway and shut the vehicle off. We read in the manual that the truck had gone into "limp mode". We restarted the truck and it was fine. However, when my wife was coming home from work the next day, it again did the same thing while she was in heavy traffic, nearly causing a multi-vehicle accident. Luckily she was in the vehicle the day earlier and knew to get it safely off the roadway ASAP. She was able to steer off the roadway and shut it down. On re-start, it once again worked. However, having this occur twice in two days and being that it's my wife's truck, and the fact that this has potential for causing an accident. Ford needs to finally fess up and launch a recall of the Throttle Body problem as defended by the rampant problem issues mentioned all over the internet.I have to wonder how many accidents were caused by this problem that have been undetermined?
