The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While the vehicle was idling at a traffic light, it stalled and failed to restart. The contact stated that the fuel pump fuse was replaced and the vehicle restarted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.. the consumer stated had to purchase a rewire kit from Ford to prevent the problem.

The vehicle decelerated when I was merging onto two lanes of a interstate from a two lane on ramp. I was in the left lane of the on ramp and had a vehicle on my right and two semis in the interstate lanes. I had been on the road about 45 minutes in a light rain the whole time. I tried to accelerate to get out of the wedge and get onto the interstate and the engine began extreme sputtering and decelerating. I had to hit the brakes to avoid being sandwiched between the vehicle on my right and the two semis. I have seen Ford's report stating it only lasts for seconds and the vehicle will accelerate. That is incorrect, due to the extreme sputtering, my vehicle had to decelerate and it did not clear up for a least 2 to 3 miles. I also understand that the NHTSA has dropped the case. I can only tell you that this was a very near miss for both the NHTSA and Ford with 3 people in vehicle. I also see that for has told the NHTSA that they have repaired all the affected vehicles. Really. I just got mind fixed today and that was after it was supposed to be fixed yesterday but the dealership didn't put the bottom shield on because they thought it wasn't supposed to be put on my vehicle. I think the NHTSA has put itself in a bad position by siding on this issue with Ford.

Driving home from vacation we had stopped and were getting back onto highway, it had been raining all the way and when were merging back onto highway I accelerated quickly the truck started shaking lost power I lifted off accelerator until the shaking had quit and then eased back in and was able to drive the rest of the way home. The check engine light came on dealer showed it as a misfire. The current fix for this is to cover the first 6 to 8 inches of the intercooler...updated 09-24-14

Driving down the interstate during wet conditions my 2012 Ford F150 ecoboost started to stumble and loose power drastically while pulling a trailer. The truck would only do 30 mph as it shook and stumbled down the interstate. This power loss made it really dangerous to get off the road safely without other cars and trucks being affected. The only way to reset the truck was to shut the engine off and restart it. This has happened twice to me during wet rainy conditions. This issue really concerns me from the safety of my well being and other fellow drivers. Ford needs to take action in fixing this problem with the F150 ecoboost trucks.

My two children and I were driving up hwy 75 North from macon when we accelerated to the next lane. The speed limit is 70 so we were just going to pass in at a normal rate when the engine just quits and the whole car starts to shudder. Now I have had this happen at 19,000 miles and took it in to the dealership. This was only about two months ago. Went in today before I read all the complaints about this 3.5 eco boost engine and the similar problems I experienced. It was raining on when we had this happen but it occurred before with no rain. As the truck stopped and shuddered we were finally able to get to side of the road and did not get hit by oncoming traffic. There are six lanes of traffic in this area. Surprised today when I went to the dealership and told them what was happening and they didn't even know of the problems or have ever heard of it. "???" so based on what I have read I called back only to find out they have had issues.

I had been traveling on the interstate in South Florida on a clear and sunny day when I slowed for tolls. As I tried to speed back up, the truck stumbled and acted like it was losing power. Then, the check engine light came on. The truck has been to the dealership on 10/09/13 at 22,489 for the same issue and the following: Sawgrass Ford- "check engine light?- installed lower air deflector per tsb 13-8-1 08/05/13 (3.5L gtdi"intermittent stumble/misfire on acceleration from highway cruise in humid or damp conditions with possible dtc P0304, P0305, P0306, or P0430). The truck is dangerous to drive if you are trying to accelerate into traffic or trying to pass someone.

Traveling down the road. Got up to 55 to 60 mph lost power transmission stared jerking. Power caught back up and lunged forward. At times the engine stalls and catches back up. At times when you put it in gear it feels like the power train is bumping as though your getting stuck are hit from behind.

Seemed to happen after cruising and attempting to pass another vehicle. Was unable to accelerate and continued to slow to 50mph. Had to ease on the throttle to slowly accelerated after the condition cleared. Vehicle in the shop 4 times for updates, 3 for changes to the intercooler and the last was for a change of the catalytic converter.

I have a 2012 Ford F-150 with the ecoboost engine. While slowly accelerating at higher speeds (generally around 50 to 70 mph), the engine misses terribly on multiple cylinders and the truck jerks and lunges violently all while losing power and speed. It happens frequently, but most often when slowly accelerating to maintain speed up a hill or pass another vehicle. The loss of power is extremely dangerous, especially while passing other vehicles on a highway.

I was on a highway going 65 mph, the conditions were drizzle/very humid, roughly 90 degrees outside. There was a slow car in front of me so I got in the on coming traffics lane to pass the car, but when I stomped on the gas pedal there was no response. My truck wouldn't accelerate so I pushed it a few more times and still nothing. There was a car coming and I almost got hit head on because of this incident and probably would've been badly injured had I not gotten back in my lane just before the car passed. The engine returned to normal after about 20 seconds and I was able to accelerate and finally get around the car. This is only 1 of the 5 times it has happened in this specific vehicle, its happened to me three times, and twice when I've loaned the truck to my father. It only happens in humid or rainy conditions and I'm guessing has something to do with the intercooler. But I'm not an auto guy so I wouldn't know. I called Ford corporate and they said go to the dealer, the dealer didn't see any codes that were thrown during these incidents so they said they could not help me. I was on a trip from Oklahoma to Florida. I stopped for gas in Louisiana. When I got on to the on ramp to return to the interstate I floored the gas pedal to get in front of a semi truck, and it lost all power almost being hit by semi truck. After my trip I took my pickup truck to my Ford dealer to have it checked out.they told me they can not find anything wrong with it. This is a very dangerous problem that needs to be fixed. Me and my wife could have been killed if the semi truck did not have room to move over to miss us.

On 2 separate occasions, approximately 3 months apart while in hard acceleration attempting to merge on an interstate on-ramp, vehicle began to shudder violently and lose power. In first instance, I was able to merge in the left lane and let off the accelerator. As vehicle coasted, the shudder subsided and within 1 minute stopped all together. In the second instance, when the vehicle lost power, traffic conditions would not allow me to merge and I was forced to coast along the shoulder of the road until the shudder subsided and power was resumed. In neither situation, did the vehicle go into safe mode or the check engine light appear. Vehicle simply resumed normal operation.

I only just learned of your investigation so my memory on exact dates and mileage may be off by a few weeks. I did take my truck to the Ford dealer to report my incident so they should should have a record of this and the work they performed (baierl Ford, zelienople, pa 16063). My 2012 F150 with the 3.5L ecoboost was about 6 months old at the time. I was passing a coal truck uphill on a 10% grade. I was not towing, nor did I have a load in the bed. He was going about 30 mph. I eased out and got along side running now at about 50-55, then 'punched' the throttle to complete the pass. That did not turn out well. The engine cut out exactly like a reverse limiter on an atv and the check engine light came on. I barely was able to complete the pass, and was 'pushed' up the hill by the coal truck, engine running in that cut-out mode all the way. Got over the top and it continued to run like this down the other side. After about 6 miles, it went back to normal and the check engine light went out. Took it to my dealer not too long after. They installed something - since it was warranty work I wasn't given the paperwork and simply don't recall what they did. Apparently there was a tsb on the problem though. I have not had a repeat in the 6 months since, although I do drive differently now, having experienced that episode. That event severely compromised my confidence in this engine. Since then I have been very adverse to passing on two lane roads and have delayed towing several times for fear this would happen again potentially creating a deadly situation.

We were returning from Arkansas in our F150 with the ecoboost engine in rain/heavy mist. We were on the interstate for a long period of time and when I went to pass a slower vehicle the truck just shook and wouldn't accelerate. It happened again 1.5 hours later in the same conditions, truck would not accept anything beyond 3/8 throttle. This happened before when we were in the rain (coming from Arkansas) with the exact same conditions (year ago). I haven't taken the truck to the dealer as from reading several places there isn't a true fix at this point. Some people are drilling holes in their intercoolers trying to drain the water that appears to be the issue.

I purchased my F-150 ecoboost, on July 28, 2012. Almost immediately after purchasing it, I have had issues with the engine. Often when it rains, the truck will not start or when it does start, it refuses to go or when it is going, it will not accelerate. When I attempt to pass a slow vehicle, there is no power. The engine boggs down, to an idle. The truck has left me stranded numerous times. I took my family on a trip to miami, Florida, during the christmas holiday. On the open road the motor quit. I was able to limp it into a Ford dealer, who had to perform extensive engine repairs in able to get the truck running again. While I was driving it back to Tennessee, after 3 weeks of repairs, it happened several more times. When I attempt to pass slower vehicles, I try to accelerate and there is no power. It is dangerous, particular when traveling on 2 lane country roads with hills. Often, when I park and exit the truck, there is a strong odor of gas coming from somewhere under the hood of the vehicle. This is a fire hazard. On 2 occasions, the driver's seat has come unattached from the floor of the truck. This morning, I went to take my children to school I was driving and heard/felt thumping and the seat fell back, I was nearly laying on my back, while driving. This has happened twice. This is dangerous and scary, when it happens while driving down the road. The Ford customer care representative was very flipped and seemed to be more concerned with ensuring that I understood the terms of the warranty than the safety of my vehicle. I was insulted and humiliated, for suggesting they provide me with something to drive while they corrected the problem. The first time this happened, it took 3 weeks to fix. I bought this vehicle, I should not have to buy another vehicle to drive. To date the best fuel mileage I have gotten is 13.2 miles per gallon.

I put my truck into drive and it hesitates, jumps back and fourth being real sluggish. The only way out of this is to floor the gas and let it push through for about five to ten seconds and then it is done. Which is hard to do when it is time to take my kids to school and I am in a school zone. This is very intermittent, but happens more often than not. If I let the car remain off for more than 15 minutes then the cycle can continue. Sometimes it starts up and drives fine. I notice it is more and more prevalent as the miles climb up. It has been doing this since the beginning and is still doing this. Since around 20000 miles the truck hesitates on the road after driving for sometime. So now it happens whenever it wants to. I have read online that this is a common occurrence that Ford knows about, just doesn't admit to or try to fix. My best friend had to trade his truck in because of this problem. This has the potential to be a problem just like the acceleration of the Toyota. This problem happens sporadically but it is more often than not. Now the transmission is jumping when slowing down or speeding up. I was told this is normal, it is just the computer getting used to my driving. I don't make a habit of making my truck hesitate at all. So this is a dumb response that once again, many people online get the same answer. I am nearing my 36000 mark. So I know this is about to cost me out of my own pocket to fix because the Ford house will just say nothing is wrong and not fix it. So my question is are transmissions really this cheap and we just move on and accept that craftsmanship in America or do we make Ford fix their issue. I have purchased many vehicles throughout my 39 years in this great country. I have never had a car act like this on such a wide scale with nothing being done about it. Please hold them accountable.

While accelerating on an on-ramp to merge into traffic on I-90, the entire vehicle vibrated very hard, the engine then lost power, causing electric to shut down, and uncontrolled deceleration to occur. The check engine light started to flash. Once I released the pressure on the gas pedal, and pulled off the interstate to avoid oncoming traffic, the power returned and the engine responded again. The catalytic converter was determined to be the problem and was replaced. Notified Ford regional service manager about concerns that this was a safety issue, he responded that the car was under warranty, and nothing else could be done despite acknowledging that we could have been involved in a very serious accident due to the engine failure. About 2 months later, the same problem occurred, and apparently the computer system was not updated as required. After the update, it worked fine. In December 2012, similar symptoms occurred and the dealership determined it was the coil in engine 4 as the problem.

On numerous occasions while accelerating to merge into traffic or to pass a slower vehicle or hard accelerating from a standing stop vehicle shakes and stalls, stays in second gear and has no throttle response, in wet or dry conditions, sometimes completely dying. On one occasion vehicle stalled and died while entering expressway causing me to have to run off road, hitting a sign and dirt bank to avoid approaching semi truck. Engine oil is diluted with gas, has burning smell in engine compartment. We are afraid of engine explosion and fire, burning smell is so bad. Ford has attempted several fixes, but problem continues, now there is a grinding grunt when going into reverse.
