The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated while using the defroster, the rear windshield shattered. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a glass repair shop and was informed that the rear windshield needed to be replaced. The contact called and notified the local dealer of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

On Friday, October 29, 2021, at about 6:30 PM, I was driving my 2012 Ford F150 Super Crew 4WD Platinum PU down a two lane highway at about 60 MPH, when I heard a distinct, loud "pop" or "bang", so loud it scared me. I initially thought I had been shot at or a decent sized rock had struck the roof of my PU with some good velocity. After the initial shock, I didn't notice anything being different. It was dark outside. After a few moments, I had no idea what had happened, but moved on. The next morning, I got in my truck and immediately noticed the passenger side of the back window was shattered. I inspected the window and clearly saw a heat signature deformation in the lower left corner of the right pane. This was also the initial spot of the shattering.The rear window defroster system had shorted out and burned up. From Photo #4 I am not convinced there was not an actual fire at some point. I quickly found forums that document reports of Ford vehicles doing this for well over 10 years. My glass repair place does not want to work on it ($825) since it is not a glass problem and replacing the glass does not guarantee it won't just happen again. I am thankful I did not startle worse than I did. This easily could have caused me to lose control of my vehicle at highway speeds, not to mention the danger to passengers of shattering glass. Then on Friday before the appointment it started to rattle and died while traveling thru a controlled intersection. I made it home barely and when I took it to the shop today I was told that it had a defective timing chain that Ford was aware of but are not willing to fix. Bottom line is it ruined the engine and now I am stuck with a $10,000 bill. The safety issue is if this would have happened on the road to the dealership I could have crashed over the steep terrain.

The right back corner cab window has shattered/spidered with no reasonable cause or impact.the vehicle was stationary when it occurred and there is a topper on the truck so impact from the exterior or interior did not happen. I discovered that there have been multiple reports of this and when I talked to the Ford dealership they were fully aware of this type of issue but there is no recall. I am thankful the vehicle was stationary and my child was not in the seat for the glass to potentially break on them. This is a huge safety concern and should not be happening. Power steering suddenly failed and the service advancetrac light came on while accelerating from a stop sign and turning left. Maneuvered the car down the street and couldn't navigate the driveway so I backed up and the power steering began working but the advancetrac light remained on. This light came on before but with no effect to the steering only the blinkers, which would not stay on. Disconnected the battery and light and problem went away. Spoke with the dealer and was told that it was also connected to the ABS braking system and to schedule an appointment if these happens again. 114800 miles.

Secondary timing chain link came apart soon after I bought the truck in 2015 at 66,000 miles my warranty paid for it. Now it is happening again but on the other side of the engine. 2 time chain links fall apart.
