F-150 XTR 3.5L Ecoboost

This vehicle has never had great AC. I took it in the first year I owned it and they said it only had the factory charge in the AC. They topped it up and its been OK since (on very hot days its took a long time to cool). A couple of months ago the AC belt went. the dealer diagnosed the compressor to be defective.

On very hot days the A/C in my 2013 F-150 with 3.5L V6 EcoBoost will not turn on fully until truck is driven five to 10 miles or more. A/C will start and immediately shut off, a few moments later start again, stay on a little longer before shutting off and this keeps happening -- on, off, on, off, on, off until about five or ten miles later when it will stay on. Truck is at dealer right now and they can not get it to do as above. I believe it is a faulty Evaporator Discharge Air Temperature Sensor, which costs about $20, but the entire dash has to be removed to check it or replace it (great place for Ford to put it!). Coolant is full; no leaks in system; no warning lights come on; no codes are available; and no way to check sensor without pulling dash apart (4 hour job).

It has happened to my wife and I three times, but after being at the Ford dealer for nearly a week they can't seem to get it to repeat itself. I did drive it home and let in set in the hot sun from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm and it immediately did it again (with my wife as a witness). Back to Ford and again after repeated attempts can't get it to repeat problem.

I can't be the only owner of this F-150 and like equipment that is having this problem. Ford TSB's have been useless!

Update from Jul 28, 2016: Ford dealer can not find the problem and has stated it might be the ignition key not making the proper connections. In other words, they will no longer try to solve the problem!

Update from Oct 13, 2016: Took my F-150 to another dealer than the one where I purchased it. The new dealer is a small one in Rosebud, MO and their technician immediately said he could fix it within a matter of minutes. Appointment scheduled and truck air conditioning was fixed. Problem was the A/C system had been overfilled at the factory. Technician told me he had a vehicle a few weeks before mine with the same problem. Since then I have been told be the agency owner another Ford vehicle came in with same problem and fixed. The dealer I purchased my F-150 never tried anything to fix it, only waited for it to happen again while the truck was at the dealership for a week. In other words, they never even tried to find the problem!

blower doesn't function on start up when temperature outside is hot. the compressor seems to be making cool air but the blower doesn't work. I've taken it to the Ford dealer 5 times, never a permanent fix. the blower will come on after about 30 minutes, so the technician thinks he has fixed it, but its not fixed.

F-150 XLT 3.5L Ecoboost

Picked my truck up brand new on February 22 2013. Loved the ride. Drove it over the weekend heat worked, blowers worked fine.Did not use a/c since it is winter here in New York. On February 26 while driving home from work I noticed heat and blowers not working also A/c not working. Brought back to dealer on Thursday February 28. I received a call from dealers service department later that afternoon I was informed that the heater control panel was defective and would have to be replaced. Most likely my truck would be ready on March 1. I called service department numerous times on Friday March 1 to see if my truck was ready. It is now 5:04 P.M. Friday and I still have not received a call back from the service department? I was planning to drive it up to Rochester N.Y. this weekend. I guess I will have to cancel my plans. Was really looking forward to the trip and give the truck a good test run. Unfortunately I did not give Toyota Tundra a try when I purchased my vehicle. My previous truck was a 2005 Tundra. She had 180,000 miles and was still running like new until hurricane Sandy stole her from me. I felt that I would be patriotic so I bought American. I chose Ford since they were the only American car company that did not take a government bailout. Hopefully this is the only problem that I encounter. By the way it is now 5:14 and Fords svc department just called back to inform me that my truck will be ready in a half an hour. Wish me luck.
