When the driver door is open and the door is locked - either by manually inserting the key into the door and turning the lock, or using the key fob and pushing the button, or even by starting the vehicle where it automatically locks all the doors, the actuator in the door lock flips into the lock position and won't release - (again either by turning off the vehicle, entering the key and turning or pushing the unlock button on the key fob). It's extremely frustrating especially in the winter time since its cold and you want to start your car up to warm it up. It's only by what I've experienced as a random combination by pushing the button, holding the pin up, turning the car off and on, shifting from gear to neutral, etc does it unlock.
