F-150 6-cyl

  • 68,000 miles
I have a 2013 F150 that the brakes went out on. Mechanic diagnosing it says master cylinder is leaking into the brake booster. There is a safety recall for 2013-2014 F150's but mine is not included on this recall...why? I was driving when I went to stop at a stop sign and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. I was lucky there wasn't a vehicle in front of me or I would have hit them. I was in a neighborhood.

Drove truck to work no issues. Went to leave for the day, pressed the brakes to shift into reverse and brake pedal went to the floor followed by a brake fluid low message. Checked fluid and it was below min line. Checked for leaks under and at each wheel. No fluid found. Contacted Ford to check for recall and they stated my truck was not part of their brake master cylinder recall.

Driving in a neighborhood down a steep hill and brakes failed and pedal went all the way to the floor. Almost crashed into a house. Had to slam on emergency brake and slam gears into a downshift mode. Came to a stop at the yard. The shop said the lines broke at the caliper in the rubber lines and fluid was all over the under carriage.

  • 90,000 miles
While travelling on the highway, low brake fluid warning came on, and when exiting the highway the brake pedal went to the floor and I had very little braking efficacy. Fortunately, the highway exit was slightly uphill and the traffic light was green with vehicles starting to move and I was able to coast through the right turn at the green light. This occurred on the elgin-O'hare tollway (I-390) in hanover park, Illinois where the elgin-O'hare (I-390) westbound meets lake street. My 6 year old son was travelling with me, and we are very fortunate to have had the situation work out in our favor. Had we been travelling home instead of away from home, the exit ramp we would have used was downhill and typically ends at a very busy intersection.

Brakes when in reverse or forward at idle do not work properly and take extreme pressure to operate if they operate. This causes a loss of braking and being unable to stop vehicle. This happens anywhere I am at idle. Parking lots, parking spaces, or road at stop signs. The brake pedal does not want to depress regardless of how much pressure I apply. It is mainly intermittent but will happen nearly each time if you depress the brake pedal multiple time in short succession.

I had a brake failure on 01/06/2020. I had it towed to a garage and they replaced the brake booster. In the shortly after it happened again. Both times it only occurred at low speeds on city streets. I contacted a dealership after seeing there was a recall for the same issue on my year of truck. They advised my truck wasn't covered. I'm afraid to drive it.

Hauling a full 2 horse trailer. Approaching a red light when I hit my brakes they went all the way to the floor. I had the truck towed to my repair shop. They discovered a slice in the brake line. In all of their years of experience they have never seen this. See attached photo.

Brakes go all the way down to the floor. Appears to be the same issue as some of the other 2013 models were recalled for, but for some reason, Ford didn't include this model. This model should be included too.

I was driving on the interstate and the brake fluid level indicator light came on. I was able to stop safely and check the fluid. The master brake cylinder was close to empty. I had just had my vehicle serviced so this was odd. Upon attempting to drive again I found that I had no brake power.

On June 3, 2020, my son and I were in my 2013 Ford F-150 driving West on I-94. My son was driving. An alarm sounded then a message appeared on the dashboard about an issue with the brakes. I don't recall the wording. We had driven about 25 miles from home with approximately 35 miles to our destination. We continued on and I got out and my son remained in the truck for about an hour. He then got out and looked under the truck and there was no liquid under the truck. I returned to the truck and we headed home on I-696 then I-94 with no issues. The brake message on the dashboard was lit. When we exited I-94 at the marysville, Michigan exit we had a complete and total brake failure. No brakes! my son stepped on the emergency brake forcefully and was able to slow the truck down enough to make the turn off the exit ramp and on to gratiot road. He ran through the stop sigh there in making the right turn on to gratiot road but thankfully no traffic was right there at the same time. We drove the additional half mile or so to our house and parked the truck. We checked the brake fluid level and it was empty. We then drove my son's car to auto zone and bought a quart of brake fluid and poured it in to the F-150. After a couple hours we checked the brake fluid level and it was empty. There was not a drop of fluid on the cement driveway under the truck! we called marysville tire and auto, Inc. And drove the truck the less than half mile to their location. They put in a new master cylinder at a cost of $519.04. I called Ford motor owner relations and made a report (case #26860820) on June 19, 2020. Research shows me that other F-150S have been recalled for replacement of a master cylinder and I want you folks to know of my experience. There has never been any fluid leaks under my truck since I purchased it in 2014. Thank you.

While driving interstate, 65 mph, towing travel trailer (6500 lbs). Clear weather day, 72 degrees. Brake light warning light illuminated. When trying to exit interstate to investigate issue, experienced complete brake failure, both front and rear. Fortunately, I was able to use trailer electronic brakes to stop my vehicle. Upon inspection, I found no loss of brake fluid. No visible explanation for total brake failure.

While stopped, with my foot on the brake, in a parking lot waiting for traffic to clear so I could enter the street there was a rather loud pop such as a bloon bursting. The brake peddle became extremely ridged and the vehicle began moving forward. It nearly caused me to crash into the cars ahead of me. I have been a vehicle service technician for near 45 years so I was keenly aware of what had happened. I pushed the brake peddle with both my feet and managed to stop it. I contacted the Ford dealership said they couldn't repair my vehicle because of its manufacture date. I removed the defective part and it was just as the recall on the master brake cylinder stated. The problem effects more 2013 vehicles than is covered by the recall. I have attached a photo showing the brake fluid in my failed brake booster as proof.

The brake master cylinder went out while I was driving and I nearly hit the car in front of me. When I took the truck into the shop, I was told that the master cylinder had a leak and would not consistently hold pressure so it had to be replaced. After doing some research, I found a recall by Ford with recall id 16S24 for this exact same problem and when I was told what needed replaced, it was almost word for word what this recall stated. I found this information after I had already gotten the master cylinder replaced so I called Ford to speak with their recall department. I was told that this issue was not covered by the recall because my truck was manufactured after the date of what was defined in the recall. It seems to me that a truck built in the same year that had master cylinders affected would be covered by the recall. This repair cost $663.57. Losing brake pressure could have caused serious injury had I been on the highway or needing to come to an abrupt stop. A picture of the repair invoice is attached but a better copy can be provided upon request.

The contact owned a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated when her husband was driving the vehicle at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle gauges and rpms unexpectedly went into a lower gear. The steering wheel then ceased and the vehicle was unable to be controlled, along with the brake pedal failed to operate while shuttering and the lastly the vehicle crashed into a wall. The side airbags did deploy but the frontal airbags did not. The vehicle was towed to a impound lot after being totaled. A police report was taken. The contacts spouse was the only person injured in the crash. The husband sustained a back injury, numbness, tingling in his legs, and a concussion. The spouse was taken to the emergency room for his injuries. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

2013 Ford F-150 platinum truck. I got in my truck and pulled out of a parking lot. I was about to turn and get on the interstate. A car was in front of me and when I mashed the brakes the petal was stiff. There was a noise coming from the brakes. It seemed. I was able to move to the side of the rode before striking the rear of the car and come to a stop. I then proceeded slowly to an empty parking lot. I got out and walked around the vehicle and looked under the hood. No leaks that I could see and the brake reservoir was full. I drove around the parking lot and mashed the brakes several time and then it went back to working. This has been happening on several occasions. I see a recall but it is not for my VIN. Why? this is a very serious safety hazard so why is Ford not taking this serious. I have been in the fire service for 31 years and have seen the outcome of brake failure. This is not good.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving 60 mph on the highway, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact was able to pull off the highway and downshift to an eventual rolling stop. The contact restarted the vehicle and pumped the brakes pedal. The brake pedal eventually started to loosen up and the brakes worked normally. Benna Ford superior (3022 tower ave, superior, wi 54880, (715) 394-8669) stated that there were no recalls and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer provided a case number and scheduled an appointment with the same dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact checked with an indedendent mechanic and was informed that the brake booster could be the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 127,600.
