Ford Canada knowingly sold me a brand new truck fully aware that this type of failure could occur. There is no way in hell that you should have a catastrophic brake failure that comes with absolutely no warning whatsoever. Despite many articles to the contrary Ford Canada denies that any problem exists, despite issuing recalls in 2016 for the exact same problem but it doesn’t cover my vehicle. Perhaps it only covered vehicles in black, grey or white body colours? You listening FORD? This isn’t going away. I am coming after your ass.

While driving 70 mph down a busy expressway with my family in the truck, my brakes went out with no warning just before a traffic pile up. Luckily I was able to get the vehicle stopped using the side medium, down shifting and using my emergency brake. A low brake fluid error popped up on my dashboard. My first reaction was I must have hit something in the road. After examining around the truck I notice there wasn't any visible signs of any leakage. After doing a quick google search I found where this was an issue with 2013-2014 f150s.

I contacted the nearest Ford dealer and had my truck towed in. The initial reaction I got from everyone was this was an issue Ford knew about and it would be covered under a recall. After doing a vin check I was informed my truck is not covered under the current recall (even though I am experiencing the exact same issues the recall vehicles are experiencing). I was told by the dealer they could not replace the parts under the recall and I would need to contact Ford for any assistance. After speaking with Ford I was told they would not cover my truck because of the high mileage (95,000 miles)and the fact my truck's VIN does not pop up under the recall. As far as the mileage is concerned I'm a contractor who travels often for work. I avg. a thousand miles a week and sometimes more. All open road highway driving. So yes my truck has high mileage but there is not a lot of stop and got wear on the vehicle. As far as the truck not being covered under the recall, What does it take? Someone to die? What if I had not been lucky enough to get the truck stopped safely. We are talking about my family ( myself, my wife, a 5yr old and a 2yr old.) could have been seriously injured or killed.

After contacting Ford several times (even after talking to a member of management) with my concerns I was pretty much told sorry about your luck and I should save my receipt in case there was ever a recall I could get my money back. Needless to say I got stuck with an $814 service bill. Please understand I am not looking for a hand out. If my transmission had failed on the truck and there wasn't any current issue with ford I would have paid to get the truck fixed and I wouldn't be writing this complaint right now. The fact that there is a known problem and Ford would not cover me is the reason I am both upset and disappointed with them.

I've owned and driven Ford products for the last 15-20 years and unfortunately this will be my last one. I will be looking to trade the truck in the coming weeks. It's disappointing Ford chose $814 over a committed loyal customer.

Got into my truck, put it in reverse to back out of drive. Truck didn't stop, the pedal went all the way to the floor and the truck wound up in my neighbors yard. I knew right then, I had just experienced the brake recall that my truck is currently under. I had gotten a recall notice that I would be contacted when parts were available, however, I did not know the brake issue could be a catastrophic failure. It could have been a whole lot worse, had my brakes gone out the month before, when I was vacationing in the mountains. I have owned GM trucks prior to buying this New Ford F150,18 months ago. I never had to have my GM's towed to the shop, and now I've had this Ford towed twice. If your Ford is currently one the vehicles under the Brake Master recall, you had better realize just what that means when you go to put on brakes and you don't have any.

I want to share a scary thing that just happened to me. I completely lost my brakes in my 2014 F150. Pedal went all the way to the floor. It left me stranded and could have killed/injured me or someone else. After it happened I Googled "Ford brake issues" and discovered that this is under investigation but no recall. It is the Eco boost engine only to my knowledge so if you have this vehicle BEWARE it happened out of the blue. Thank God nobody was hurt.

On 5/17/2016 while backing out of a parking space, I applied the brakes to place the vehicle into drive and the brake pedal went to the floor. The truck did not stop immediately but I could hear the sound of what I assumed were the brake pads against the rotors and the truck slowly came to a stop. Immediately after the brakes went to the floor, the dash alarm indicated red and audible beeps telling me to check brake fluid. I left the vehicle in the parking spot and called for a ride home. We were approx 10 miles from home. The next day, Ford Roadside Assistance towed the vehicle to Ford of Clermont.

The service writer advised me that they would be replacing the master cylinder and the booster pump and should be repaired in a day or two. On 5/19/2016 the service writer calls me to let me know that they are replacing my lines as well and the Ford wants my brake system returned to them with fluid in the line so that they can inspect them for the failure.

On 5/20/2016 I contacted Ford customer service and told them that although they are replacing the brake parts, Ford has not corrected the problem with the replacement parts. Ford did not offer to be proactive, they advised me that if the problem should happen again that I should contact them for assistance. I do not feel safe in this vehicle, I do not feel safe towing with this vehicle and I do not feel safe placing passengers in this vehicle....Exactly why I purchased the vehicle in the first place!!!

This is a common / known problem, I'm guessing by the other complaints:

Driving back from a football game with my 10 year old son. The low brake fluid warning light came on. I stopped at a gas station and bought a some replacement fluid (12oz)... I was thinking it was probably a slow leak and I could just top it off. I had to go back in and buy another 12oz of fluid to get it to a reasonable level. Then I was on my way. About 20 minutes later, the light came back on and I immediately pulled into a parking lot and added the 3rd 12oz of fluid that I had purchased (just in case), which got me home. Then, in the morning when I came out to check on it, the pedal went to the floor.

There is no indication of brake fluid in my driveway. No spillage that I could find. I put over 36oz of fluid in that thing. I just dont know where it would be going.

Called Ford Roadside Service and they dispatched a tow truck and it is now at the dealer.

Now I need to figure out how to get a) to the dealer in the morning, b) pick up a rental car and c) get to work.

WTF FORD... I hope you do have the parts in stock.

Update from Jan 8, 2016: Not a good experience with the dealer.

Just like the forums state: It was both the master cylinder and a bad brake booster. This fix was covered under warranty but due to the Ford Diagnostic process, they opt to fix only one thing at a time. "Do only the minimum necessary and let the customer come back when / if it fails."

I took this back to the shop twice; the second time to fix the booster which I had already told them about. It's nearly always both and the dealership knows this, but they don't much care.

I can't blame Ford for incompetence, but I can tell you Lexus handles these issues better.
