F-150

  • 76,000 miles
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH up a hill, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle inadvertently slowed down. The contact stated that once at the top of the hill the vehicle resumed normal speed however, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure with the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) sensor. No repairs were completed as the aftermarket warranty company did not cover the repairs. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic who confirmed that the VCT and timing change tensioner needed to be repaired. The contact stated that the diagnostic failure code was P0016. The vehicle was not repaired as the independent mechanic informed the contact that the failure was a known failure with the timing chain tensioner and the contact was advised to contact the manufacturer for a recall. There was a Technical Service Bulletin for the failure however, the vehicle was out of warranty, and the manufacturer declined to cover the repairs. The contact stated that the vehicle was purchased USED in July of 2021 and was unaware of any Technical Service Bulletin. The vehicle was then taken to dealer who confirmed the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
