F-150 XLT 3.5L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

2014 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 had approximately 34,000 miles, under warranty, and all services up to date and conducted by Ford mechanics.

When towing I receive a message "Transmission Overheating Powering Down" and the truck gears down by itself and limits speed to 45 mph. This occurs when transmission temperature hits 215 degrees. I have towed extensively without issue and even telling friends how easily my F 150 handles the 6,500 lb trailer. This problem started occurring on May 2017 and happens every time I now tow my trailer. Courtesy Ford Service Department in Pocatello, ID owned by Phil Meador repeatedly tells me there is nothing wrong with my truck and refuses to take any type of action to rectify.

In frustration I conducted my own research and I read on line in several mechanic blogs that this could occur due to the need for new transmission fluid and/or transmission line blockage and that a possible solution is the flush transmission and purge lines. I suggested this, Courtesy Ford refused. I also found a possible error of too much humidity build up and Ford TSBs (albeit for older models) citing corrective actions but once again Courtesy Ford refused to even consider looking at truck again.

Currently I have cancelled all future camping trips and my children are very upset. I cannot afford to replace the vehicle or take it around town and have someone else try to fix what should be identified by Ford and corrected under my warranty.
