F-150 Platinum 3.5L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

Shortly after purchasing this truck new, I began to notice that all this hype about the power of the Ford 3.5 ecoboost just wasn't very impressive, especially when towing my little 20' travel trailer. I brought it into the dealership where I bought it and they "everything is just fine". Not pleased with their findings, I brought it into a different dealership where they said "we found no codes, everything is just fine". Not pleased with their findings, I brought it into a third dealership where they said "we found no codes, everything is just fine".

By now I am livid. I asked the dealership to find a truck on their lot exactly like mine, I was going to go home, hitch up the travel trailer to do a comparison between my truck and another one on their lot. Low and behold, the technician said that I have a serious drivability issue. They kept my truck to diagnose the issue and found a "hidden" code that took 3 days to have my crappy extended warranty company to cover the $650 repair of a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor. On day 5 the dealership called to tell me truck was ready and for the very time in the 4 years that I've owned this truck, it can actually spin the back tires on acceleration, my fuel economy went up by 8 or 9 mpg, I can now tow my travel trailer in a normal gear and at a normal speed.

The technician told me that the ONLY way for a code to become hidden is for a technician to intentionally hide the code. It appears that one of the dealerships did just that avoid the costly repair and let run into my extended warranty's wallet. Since the codes do not carry an electronic time/date stamp, there is no way to determine which dealership did it. There seems to be a pattern with this happening with Ford...

F-150 Lariat 3.5L Ecoboost

Driving up into the mountains for a hunting trip when lost power and truck went into limp mode. Was trying to turn around as soon as possible for obvious reasons. I was on a narrow road and when trying to do the ole eight-point turn, it suddenly accelerated into a stump and a tree bending my rear bumper (if you can call it that) and wiping off my drivers mirror among some other minor body damage. PO2112 code led me to the KNOWN throttle body problem. Made it back to town and ordered a new throttle body. Needless to say, this hiccup ruined my week.

Thanks Ford!

Definitely a safety issue. Truck went into limp mode accelerating on highway completely unannounced. Different situation could have been much worse.

Disclaimer

The video that's in the link doesn't belong to me and isn't mine but it looks about 90% just like mine and we're having the same exact problems.

I'm a soldier stationed at Fort Drum in Upstate New York. I had just left my house and I didn't even get a block away when my truck went limp. I had no acceleration, my truck was shaking, my check engine light was on, and I had warnings on my dash. They read "Service AdvanceTrac, "Hill start assist not available", and "see manual". I currently have an appointment tomorrow at my local and only Ford dealership, Davidson, but I'm really skeptical about it because they might rip me off.

I bought my truck from Lawley Ford in Sierra Vista, AZ and I really do love my truck and plan on doing some custom upgrades but the fact that this is happening to me and others really has shown me that Ford doesn't give a damn about fixing this terrible problem. I'm so damn tired of this already because this has happened five times today.

As a soldier currently serving this country I don't have a lot of time to waste on things like this that should work since its suppose to built in America.

I was headed home from work and all of a sudden truck lost power and whole bunch of warning lights appeared on the dash. Pulled over to the shoulder and shut the truck off. Started it back up and it was fine for about 5 minutes then it happened again. It happened 4 times on the highway on the way home. The issue is the Throttle body and needs to be replaced.

F-150 King Ranch 3.5L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

I have a 2015 F150 King Ranch with the 3.5L EcoBoost. It has 41,000 miles and never had an issue until yesterday morning and today around lunch.

This was from yesterday 10/23/17:

Hill Descent Control Fault Service AdvanceTrac Hill Start Assist Not Available

I was pulling out onto a highway and the truck began shaking violently, moving very slow with no acceleration, power steering was lost, and the dashboard was showing all the above errors.

Luckily there were no vehicles coming when I entered the highway and there was a place to safely pull off the highway. The truck continues to idle rough and shake violently.

And today 10/24/17:

I was driving down the interstate at 70 mph when the truck did the same thing as yesterday morning. I was able to pull off the side of the highway and shut off the motor. Once I restarted the engine, I was able to get it to the local Ford dealership. They say they have no idea why it would be doing this and have not heard anything from Ford or seen this in other F150’s they have serviced.

UPDATE: The dealership claims the fix is in a faulty Electronic Throttle Body and they replaced it at a whopping price of $770. A simple Google search shows Ford has issues with ETB's across vehicles of all classes and knows about it. In fact, some consumers seem to be involved in lawsuits against Ford because of their unwillingness to issue a recall before someone is fatally injured. These were scary, scary situations with my vehicle and thank God my wife and kids were not with me. There is obviously an issue and Ford needs to correct it at their expense.

Electronic Throttle Body failure caused the truck to suddenly become nearly un-driveable. Dealership service manager confided to me that this problem is the reason for a recall of other Ford vehicles, implication being that he thinks Ford should recall my vehicle. It isn't clear whether the replacement Throttle Body is any different than the one that failed, so I'm concerned that the problem will repeat.

2015 Ford F-150 5.0 super crew.

I was driving home from town in the rain when the truck lost all power. Coasted to the side of the road with the engine still idling, but it wouldn't go when I gave it gas. I shut the truck off and restarted after a minute and truck would take gas so I got back on the road and went about two miles and the truck went into limp mode again. This happened five times in less than a ten mile trip. I had the truck towed to the Ford dealer and they said it was a bad throttle body control which they replaced and told me the truck was ready. When I got the truck I didn't get off the lot and the engine light came on so I went back to the service garage. The truck was still idling, so they kept it overnight again to program the code to the computer. They called again to let me know the truck was ready so I went and got it. I barely got off the lot to the red light all the lights came back on, engine light, wrench light, hill assist light. It kept dying while taking it back to the service garage. They had it a few more days and they called and told me there was water in the right passenger side rocker panel and that Ford wouldn't pay for the work that had been done and told the dealer not to do any further work on the truck. Ford said that the truck had been driven in flood water and the truck has never been off the road and was purchased new by me on January 2, 2015. Ford wanted me to pay for new wiring harness in order to get the truck running which I refused. I told them the truck needed to be water tested, because I believe the truck had a leak in the A-pillars around the windshield. Everything in the truck worked fine while I had it until we had a heavy rain storm on August 10, 2015. I couldn't get any results from the dealer or Ford Motor Company, so I traded the truck in and lost lots of money. NHTSA bulletin #10058069 states that the 2015 Ford F-150 built before 1/13/2015 may exhibit a water leak at the A-pillars of the windshield seal and mine was built 10/27/2014 in Dearborn, Michigan and sold in southern Ohio.

wrench light came on with auto engine shut off in the rain

Why does such a common truck have so many problems? Maybe Ford should pay a bit more attention to detail. Auto shut off is annoying enough as it is. But when it was activated this morning and caused "wrench" light to come on it became much more than that. I have wanted this truck for quite some time and I am becoming disappointed with it over the minor issues starting to surface with only a little over 17000 miles driven. Don't have an answer about issue yet dealership closed today. Will post results after getting it checked out.
