The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. While making a right turn, the power steering failed and it was difficult to maneuver the steering wheel. The vehicle was towed to sanderson Lincoln (2121 w bell rd, phoenix, AZ 85023, (602) 375-7500) and they stated that the part was defective and needed to be replaced. The part that needed to be replaced was unknown. The contact called the manufacturer and they refused to cover the repair cost since the mileage exceeded the warranty by 2,000 miles. The failure mileage was 38,200.

While driving there is rattling inside of the steering column that started a few months back. Now my alternator seems to not be working properly and the truck will only crank when I have all extras off (radio, ac, etc.) I also have to pump the gas for some reason for it to turn over completely. Otherwise it just dies. Never had a problem until last week when it wouldn't turn over at all. My battery is pulling 13.9 V and I have checked the connections. For a truck to be 3 years old and already need a new alternator appalls me. There is something else going on and the rattling in the steering column is somehow related to me having problems cranking the truck.

  • 45,000 miles
While driving 70 mph with my cruise control on a smooth, level hwy my cruise control cut off abruptly causing an alarm to sound and a notice to service adv trac came up on my screen. At that moment I also discovered my power steering had failed causing the truck to become very difficult to steer. The rapid deceleration caused the car behind me to have to brake hard and get on the shoulder. Luckily there was no accident. I drove the truck home and called my Ford dealer the next morning and consequently took the car to them. I was informed later that morning that I had had a catastrophic steering failure and that my complete electronic power steering assist (epsa) would have to be replaced to the tune of about $2,000. The truck was delivered new in Jan of 2016 only has 45,000 miles on it and I doubt has ever been off of paved roads. I had no choice but to have it repaired and pay the bill. I contacted Ford to see if I could get some help and basically got a very weak response and of course no action. This failure occurred with absolutely no warning whatsoever and had it happened in traffic or in a more hazardous situation with a physically weaker driver at the wheel there would have almost certainly been a bad accident. After doing some searching I find that this is not an unheard of incident and based on my research would bet Ford is aware of this problem. At this point I'm ashamed that I have put so much faith in Ford and their products in the past.

While driving, a slight rattle in the steering was noticed. The last two days, starting on June 5, 2018, the steering wheel was noticeably loose with lots of axial movement in the steering shaft within the steering column cover. It is getting exponentially looser every trip. In a short time, this will not be safe or possible to drive. The state inspection in New Hampshire will not likely pass this as it is now. It is disappointing and will likely be very expensive to have fixed. The manufacturer should cover this kind of failure, especially at 37,000 miles. I would simply like a diagnostic at a Ford dealership, at no cost to me, with the list of parts with corresponding Ford part numbers which I will need to replace when I tear this down. If they would like to repair it for me, even better. I first noticed this problem while driving East, approximately 50mph on nh state highway 101 in amherst, nh. When looking at it again in the parking lot today, the wheel is noticeably wobbling by feel and by eye. It is within my best interests to fix this as soon as possible.

The panoramic sunroof locked up on me when I tried to open it... it would not open and it makes obnoxious noises under normal driving conditions... there are many you tube videos on this ref. Issue... Ford is replacing the parts to the sunroof, I have read on many Ford forums that this 'quick fix' will not correct the problem... additionally the steering column always feels like it's positioned off center and veers to the right... I had the truck aligned, problem still exists... also I've had reoccurring issues with my sync/bluetooth and have advised my service advisors that the problem still exists, when I talk to anyone via the bluetooth I hear loud intermittent static throughout the phone call and the folks on the receiving end of the call all say that there is an echo in the phone line forcing me to end the handsfree sync call and therefore using my own bluetooth... Ford service advisor stated it was because I have an apple iphone, I'm less than satisfied about how Ford is handling this issue... I have complained more than 3 times on record about this issue

I noticed a grinding noise coming from the front end of my truck. I could also feel the grinding though the steering wheel. I took it to local Ford dealership. They told me that it was the steering gear rack/pinion. I reported the problem to Ford and they declined to help with the repair cost and did not acknowledge the problem.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the steering wheel became extremely tight when attempting to turn. The eps, electronic stability, and traction control warning indicators flashed, and the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The contact had to apply extreme force to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, shut off the engine, and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was coasted to the dealer (elder Ford, 777 john R rd, troy, mi 48083, (888) 467-5023) where it was diagnosed that the steering column, steering sensor, sleeve, and steering unit needed to be replaced due to the intermediate shaft internally fracturing. The dealer provided a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V279000 (steering) and NHTSA action number: AQ17001 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

My electronic steering is overly sensitive at highway speeds and make controlling a trailer under tow very difficult. I am also having issues after turning with the steering not wanting to go straight after the turn. I have to fight the wheel to keep the truck going straight. The wheel requires a counter steer, but there is a large amount of resistance to that counter steer. Once steering figures out I want to go straight the wheel ends up canted slightly to the left or right. I was able to demonstrate this while at the Ford dealership using a 2017 test truck as well. So it appears to be an issue that can effect any truck with epas steering. This youtube video is not my truck but it shows exactly what I experienced in my truck and the test truck. The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. While driving 45 mph, the steering wheel was wheel turned to the left. Upon release, it failed to return back to the center. The contact had to force the steering wheel to the right to make it move. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to rairdon's Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of marysville (16610 smokey point blvd, arlington, wa 98223 (360) 653-5664), but the failure could not be duplicated or diagnosed. When the contact left the dealer, the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and test driven by a technician who witnessed the failure. Rairdon's Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of marysville had the vehicle sent to marysville Ford (15900 smokey point blvd, marysville, wa 98271 (360) 386-1245), but the failure could not be duplicated or diagnosed, and there were no error codes present. I was driving my 2015 Ford F150 when the power steering failed. I was driving on a curved road when the failure occurred, and I almost lost control of the vehicle. The code, "steering assist fault, service required" appeared. Days before, the steering felt tight. I had also been experiencing issues with the wiper blades turning on, and failing to turn off. I am the original owner of the truck, purchased it two years ago (almost to the day), and it currently has less than 38,000 miles. Ford will not honor the warranty because the dealership could not get the truck in for service until after it rolled over 36,000 miles. Luckily, I am an experienced driver with a commercial license or the complete steering failure would have resulted in an accident and damage to the vehicle and bodily injury.
