I have a 2016 F 150 with 15000 miles on it. Just discovered the frame is rotted when I took it in to get the starter replaced. The frame bent on the lift. Poking around, there are holes all over. It has NEVER been submerged, and I am the original owner. Yes I live in the northeast with salt on the roads, but I spray off every 2 weeks or so. Called Ford customer service, and they said they will do nothing until there is a recall. A letter to their po box went unanswered. With that, I submitted a complaint to NHTSA (link below); everyone with the same problem should do so as well. In the meantime, I've got an estimate from a local shop that will replace the frame for a minimum of $20,000, likely more. It is a great truck with 15K...how much is a new one? I am a Ford guy, but I will have trouble giving this company any more business as they have essentially abandoned a loyal customer. Also in the meantime, I sent Ford a notice of intent to sue in New York state small claims court. Per an attorney relative, even though the rust warranty is 5 years, there is what is known as a "implied warranty of merchantability" for sale of goods by a merchant, meaning the goods must be fit for their ordinary purpose. With my truck at 9 years old and minimal mileage, and now not able to pass inspection and likely being unsafe to drive, it is the opposite of fit.
If enough of us complain to NHTSA, Ford will have to do what Toyota did...replace the frames or compensate us.
