From reading others experiences in this model of F150, I think it was the throttle body. Coming out of a complete stop, I pressed the throttle all the way down. The truck began accelerating, then the dash started chiming, and the truck would lurch forward and back. At this point, the throttle was completely unresponsive. After getting the truck to the side of the highway, 'Service Advance Track' was on the dashboard screen, followed by 'Hill start assist not available'. The local Ford dealership looked at it, and said they fixed it. However, in the past few months it has happened 6 more times. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

Hello, Thank you for reviewing this issue. My 2016 F-150 would shift into neutral or 1st gear without warning, even at high speeds. This would cause the rear end to lock-up. Driving at highway speed, then it would go into neutral then into 1st then resume a higher gear. The drop to first required you to hang on, wet or slippery conditions made it dangerous. After a couple of trips to a dealer (without much help at all) and finally at an expert transmission shop (very helpful), we identified the internal transmission speed sensor and gear selection leadframe assembly failed, intermittent behavior resulted. This started about a year ago or two ago with rare and random flickering of gear selections, eventually becoming the issue described above. No codes were thrown until the problem got so severe (longer than 1 second failure) that the computer finally reported a code. The component, purchased with an entire valve assembly (because the part isn't available for 4-6 months) was replaced and the issue is gone. Feel free to call me. The transmission suddenly downshifts into first gear from 5th gear at higher speeds, causing a rapid loss of speed. The transmission also has hard shifts, the above problems have happened on several occasions. From safety standpoint the sudden downshift could cause a accident. There were no warning lamps or alarms. I have not had the truck inspected by anyone as it just happened. I have not taken it to a dealer.

I have a critical safety issue with the 2016 F150 truck I bought from Cavalier Ford, Chesapeake VA. The issue is the 6R80 automatic transmission unexpectedly changes gears while driving. In my case the truck down shifted from high gear to low gear on the interstate while driving about 70 miles per hour. I was fortunate no other cars were near me. My truck almost came to a stop, no brake lights displayed. This occurred the week on Jul 6 2021. It has occurred multiple times since than as well. I had the battery checked, showed bad, and bought a new one Jul 9th. I also had the "Check Engine" light scanned at Autozone. It revealed codes P0706/707, ie Range Sensor inside the transmission. I called Cavalier for an appt (Aug 11th almost a month away!!!), informed it would be $140 for a diagnostic!! It was free at Autozone. I also had another free scan done at Logan's Auto repair on Jul 22nd, having codes P0702/705/706/707/1921, all pointing to the Range sensor in the tranny. I spoke with Cavalier representative Nicole on Jul 16th, no help, and also left Service Mgr. Cathy Hunt. a voicemail on Jul 23rd explaining my dilemma. She has not returned my call. My status now, I have a 2016 F150 Ford truck, I urgently need to work and daily errands, ie Grandkids. There was a recall on this issue on the 2011/12 F150s. How come not now, its a major safety issue, and I see a lot of these trucks around. I wanted to convey this to Ms Hunt. Summary...the motor in this truck blew up at approx 39000 miles, and Ford did replace it. Now, at 79000 miles the transmission is also gone out. Since my extended warranty of 75000 just expired, I need some assistance from either Cavalier or the Ford plant. I need a reliable truck for work and taking care of the grandkids. If no one has reached out to me my COB Jul 28th 2021, a safety complaint will be sent in to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration...Thank you

Truck speed went down when driving, try to seed up on the gas pedal for a few seconds didnt wana move forward. This has happend three time already, My son has a code reader thing that when he plugged it to My truck this code came up P0720. Had to park My truck at home for My worry and safety. My son took it to the Ford dealership and got it a diagnostic test done. On way over there He said the truck drove fine. The dealership test said it was Lead frame Connector. They have to change that and drain the oil of transmission and refill it again. Its almost a month My truck has been park here at home.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle downshifted and ceased in first or second gear. The vehicle inadvertently shifted into third gear and ceased in third while the contact was transitioning from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal at a stoplight. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the lead frame had failed. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 85,600.

Transmission will suddenly downshift into first gear or will downshift out of overdrive at freeway speeds. Transmission will sometimes not downshift to first gear at a complete stop, and will not operate properly until engine is shut off and restarted. Problem is similar to previous 6R80 transmission recall. Problem has been reoccurring since 4/23/21

My truck will show a wrench light on the dash and downshift from 6th gear to 1st gear while driving causing the tires to lock up(70mph on the highway). This is a huge safety issues as I almost wrecked when it has done this. The 2011 to 2013 F-150S had a recall for this same issue but there is no recall for the 2016's. truck shows code P0715.

Earlier this year, my F-150 started showing signs of overheating. A diagnostic was done and showed nothing. Following this I had the thermostat replaced 3 times. I was experiencing 'limp mode' where I'd be on the highway and the truck would go from 65 to 20 in seconds with only a "bing" sound as a warning. I researched on line to learn what the cause might be.and determined it was probably the etc sensor/knock sensor. My regular mechanic would reboot? the computer system and it would work for a while and then the same thing would happen. I finally went to the Ford dealership where I originally purchased the truck. Due to the unprofessionalism of this dealership, I was compelled to contact Ford corporate office. They informed me that even though this is a manufacturer's defect and there have been complaints about it, they were not in a large enough number to warrant a recall.

Intermittent failure of reverse gear to engage. On multiple occasions the reverse gear fails to engage after multiple attempts to shift into and out of gear. This appears to be an electronic control issue with the transmission shifting control as it eventually resolves itself after numerous attempts. The problem is both inconvenience and safety as backing up is often necessary to execute a normal turn around. An accident resulting in two insurance claims resulted from this defect; I was attempting to backup in my home driveway and there was delay in the reverse gear engagement; not fully comprehending what was going on, I pressed on the gas to proceed while reverse was not engaging. Then the truck suddenly engaged in reverse and I lurched backward hitting another vehicle before I could apply the brake. Total damages for both vehicles exceeded $15,000.

The truck makes a loud transmission squall under load in a downshift. This is a consistent issue that Ford and the local dealer continue to say they cannot repeat. Anytime I drive the truck in terrain it happens. And I do not off road the vehicle, before you start asking those questions. Also when the transmission is cold/ambient temp, the shifting is incredibly rough, and jerky. Not just a little but the whole truck will lunge. This is a 5.0 V8 truck, not light and for it lung is disturbing. I am sure if this happens in close traffic someone will hit something. Only a matter of time.

The vehicle stalls between shifts. It has happened at all speeds. Freeway, pulling out of my drive. It has stalled while im trying to turn left in front of uncoming traffic. Numerous warning lights fill the dash. No throttle response. After you can pull it over, turn it off, wait a few seconds, then restart it runs fine. Til it happens again out of the blue. Ive had it into my Ford dealership 3 times now and they still cant fix it. Happened just yesterday, about got hit by an on coming vehicle. Luckily, after a horn and slamming on their brakes, they stopped to see if everything was ok. Again slow speeds or fast, it just stalls. You are left without power when you need it the most. Very dangerous situation. This has happened while on the freeway, just a shutter and im left rolling with no power. Its happened pulling out of my driveway. Its happened turning into on coming traffic. Ford wont do anything about it. Again 3 times in the dealership and they always say "without a trouble code theres nothijg we can do". this is going to get somebody killed. Could have been me just yesterday.

Vehicle suddenly lost power while driving both from a stop and at highway speeds. I shut off vehicle and restarted it which seemed to temporarily solve the problem only to have it reoccur days later. Engine code registered on the dash display. Code was retrieved (P2112) which correlates to a faulty throttle body. Ford has acknowledged this problem with an extended warranty replacement, but my local dealership will not replace the throttle body, so I was forced to replace it myself and pay for the faulty part. My vehicle had less than 36,000 miles at the time of this incident. When the vehicle loses power in traffic, it is definitely a life, health, safety issue. There are numerous examples that can be found on the internet of this defective part/throttle body on various Ford vehicles. I feel that Ford should initiate a recall for obvious safety reasons. Ford has put out various tsb's regarding this documented problem.

While driving on a highway on 8/30/20, the truck experienced a complete loss of forward motion, began "bucking" and codes and warnings started appearing on the dashboard. Were able initially to coast to a safer location to stop. Truck would not move although the engine was running. Turned the truck off, restarted and all codes disappeared. However, as soon as we started again, within a quarter mile, same failure occurred. In 20 miles, this happened approximately 6 more times and we could not get safely off the road (no shoulders with ditch on side) having to come to a complete stop, turn engine off and restart the vehicle while in the traffic lane. Very unsafe and we were lucky not to be hit by passing vehicles. After researching what this possible could be, found it likely that it was a failure of the electronic throttle body, which was the subject of a recall in previous year models of this vehicle as well as a customer satisfaction action #16B32 for replacement of the electronic throttle body for our year of manufacture. (our truck was manufactured in dearborn during the period that this action was to be taken 8/1/15 through 5/17/16.) made appointment at local dealer and our truck was serviced yesterday at pittsville Ford in pittsville md and the diagnosis was the electronic throttle body failure. The etb and gasket were replaced at a cost to us of $551.14. I have seen online threads of others having this same failure and want to know why ours was not part of a recall or other, longer customer satisfaction action, as this could have caused a severe or even fatal accident. Very dangerous to have this type of catastrophic failure with no warning at all. I have reported this issue for Ford and my questions regarding why this was not already replaced and have been assigned a case number - cas-27541116. Told our VIN was not a part of this action. How?
