  • 59,900 miles
Lost power, vehicle stalled out in middle of road at low speed. Got 'wrench' icon. Initially did not start up again until after a few minutes. Was able to start again and get home. Used code reader, got P706 and P707 codes. Cleared codes, no issues for a couple days then it happened again, downshifts hard at low speed, then from a stop at red light I have no first gear. Then it disappears and is smooth again. Then it all happens again the next day but is overall unpredictable and unsafe.

Driving eastbound on I-10 at 75 -80 mph, on a mountain, suddenly advanctrac fault warning and engine power lost. Vehicle entered limp mode. I was forced to 'limp' on the shoulder to reach a safe area to stop with cell service and wait for a tow truck. This was a very dangerous situation. Semi traffic at high speeds were blowing past very little shoulder space to navigate. At each guard rail I was forced to stop - wait for a break in traffic- restart and pray for enough momentum to get around the area. I finally limped into wilcox AZ and contacted Ford roadside assistance. The vehicle was towed 74 miles to smith Ford in lordsburg nm $280. Fra advised that due to covid 19 no personal transportation is available. No alternate transportation is available in wilcox AZ. Smith Ford service does not open until Monday. Another roadside service $205 put computer on it. Code P2112 throttle actuator 'a' control system stuck closed. Pyramid roadside service found damaged wiring behind accelerator pedal and loose pedal. I had to walk alone in the desert to find a hotel. I eventually walked another 2 miles pulling a suitcase to a grayhound station to phoenix Sunday (274 miles).I will contact dealer tomorrow.Ford has been aware customer satisfaction program to replace defective etb 2015 & 2016 F150. I purchased May 5, 2019 and was not made aware of potentially dangerous situation. No recall was issued for this dangerous defect. Not only could I have been seriously injured on the interstate, I was put in very high risk situations both due to covid 19 high risk in this part of the country but also my personal safety being alone without transportation in an area with limited resources. Thus far I am out of pocket $800 and do not know what additional expenses I may incur until my truck is repaired. I live in papillion, ne and have a long way to go to get back home.

Over the past few weeks, my truck would loose power and go into limp mode randomly. I would pull over, turn the truck off, and back on. It would be okay for a couple of days and then occur again. This would happen in town and twice while on the freeway. I took it in today and had the code read: P2112 throttle actuator control system - stuck closed

Intermittently while towing, after driving several hundred miles of non stop highway driving, the engine will kill after exiting the freeway. When I restart it by turning the key, it will kill again as soon as I put it in drive. This will happen several times before I get the engine to keep running. This happens only in the tow/haul mode. I have been to my local dealership 3 times and they have not been able to fix the problem.

  • 32,000 miles
While driving straight ahead at a steady 35 mph on a 2% downgrade, small city, double lane, one-way, debris free street, the automatic transmission shifted abruptly from 4th gear to 1st gear. I did not make any gear shift lever changes nor did I change any options such as pushing the sport mode, tow mode, locking differential, hill descent or traction control buttons. I was seated comfortably, both hands on the steering wheel, seat belt fully engaged with no in-vehicle distractions such as a phone or radio tuning. The engine immediately raced to 6400 RPM causing the rear wheels to start a skid even though the road surface was dry and free of any debris. After approximately 4 seconds I realized that the transmission had forcibly, on its own, shifted into 1st gear, so I put the transmission into neutral. The dash mounted gear indicator showed 4th gear during this altercation which made it harder to know what was going on until I shifted to neutral. Although it took another 5 seconds for the transmission to respond fully to this input, it finally went into neutral. Shortly thereafter the rear wheels went into coast mode. I was able to narrowly avoid colliding with the vehicles in the left lane because of my quick corrective action of putting the transmission gear selector into neutral. I've not had this dangerous self-shifting transmission to 1st gear at highway speed occur but the one time on September 19, 2019, but it does still concern me. My truck had approximately odometer 32,000 miles at the time of this occurrence. I bought the truck new with 16 miles and have not modified or poured any additives into the transmission. My truck has not been abused or towed. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen to any other 2016 F150 truck owners, but perhaps, unfortunately it may have. I also hope this helps in maybe finding a fix should there need to be one.

These messages appeared on the information screen "hill start assist - not available" and "service advance trac". the engine started running rough, engine RPM and speed dropped and pressing on the accelerator pedal did mothing. I was going about 30 mph on a city street. I was able to get to the side of the road and shut off the engine. I then restarted it and the problem disappeared. It happened about four times in the last two weeks. This is a safety issue that has not been addressed by Ford. The dealer replaced the throttle body and motor assembly for a total cost of $681.55.

Attempting to accelerate, no power. Vehicle was on 2 lane highway with concrete barriers on both sides and no shoulder. I was going approx 70 mph. I had our toddler, new born and wife in then vehicle. Vehicle slowed faster than I have ever felt before. Cars and trailers slamming on brakes. I'm assuming this did not trigger my brake lights and it was almost dark. So incredibly dangerous not to mention scary. Dash warnings indicated no traction control, hill decent or ABS. Dealer is replacing the throttle body. This was a catastrophic and dangerous flaw.

First time inwas driving in town, flat road no hills going about 35 on a turn, when my truck just stopped accelerating abruptly and was barely creeping along..multiple warning lights starting with hill assist came on. I got to side of road shut truck off and restarted indicators came back, so I started again to take to brother in laws house and it happened again. Called dealer they said take it out see if check engine lights come on. I take off on highway got to about 45 accelerating to 55 and again is just stops abruptly, lights flash again, I have no power no acceleration, only this time I have traffic near me a semi almost took me out because there is no warning when it happens. Check engine ligh comes on. My brother in law notice the temp gauge stayed cold and transmission temp was low, also I wasn't pulling anything at the time so transmission wasn't hot. I baught truck used less than a yr ago and have just over 40K miles on it. I have only pulled a popup camper with it so far. Noticed this seems to be a known problem for this truck. Will be contacting dealer today. I have included photos of warning flights that pop up.

Hill descent control fault/ service advancetrac warning suddenly turned on. Alternated w service light. But I was just driving home from work on a 70 degree day on a dry paved road decelerating from a 40mph zone to a 30 mph zone up a slight incline. I wasn't using hill descent and traction was fine. The disturbing part was the vehicle suddenly ran rough and had no power. I could not get it to run well enough pull it over out of the traffic lane. An on off cycle returned function for a few seconds and I got around the corner before the fault occurred again. With no hills the last block I got to my driveway where a longer off period returned the vehicle to function. This type of sudden power loss could cause an accident.

  • 52,000 miles
The wrench light first came on around 42,000 miles, but would shut off when the vehicle would be turned off. It came on a second and third time around the 50,000 and 51,750 miles. Sometimes it would come back on when driving again and sometimes not. Then the engine light came on at about 52,000 miles. When this came on, it would stay on. The truck would seem to lose a lot of power and the RPM's would begin revving higher while driving. This would be driving on all road conditions, highway or city, up and down hills. We had the truck in to check and the code it provided was 'dtc S-P0741 torque convertor clutch solenoid circuit performance stuck off. Will have to replace tcc and if condition still exists, replace the main valve body.' The first Ford dealer (while on vacation) made the repair, but this did not repair the truck. (the wrench light came back on again 131 miles after the repair and the engine light came back on again 40 miles later of the wrench light warning.) took the truck back to the Ford dealer we purchased the truck at and they are still trying to determine the cause to the issue. The first time the wrench light came on, was under normal driving conditions and not towing a camper. All the remaining times the wrench and engine light came on was while towing a camper. (not sure if this is possible cause of the issue or not, but feel it is worth noting.) according to the owner's manual, the auto start/stop feature is to automatically disable when a camper is hooked up to the truck. But this never seemed to automatically disable when we were hooked up to the truck. Another issue is when starting the truck up from a cold start it would make a rattling noise. This only happens from cold starts. If the truck had been runner awhile, shut off and then restarted, it did not make the noise. Ford is still trying to determine what could be causing this.

When first turn the truck on and it's cold, the transmission will slip out of first gear into third and then into fifth. When you stop, the transmission slams back into first gear and jerks until it gets into second gear. Only does when the teuck is cold typically. The truck has been to the dealer four times to get repaired for this issue. I'm told that it's a programming issue each time. After the programming is reset, the transmission will function correctly for a few days and then the issue will start happening again.
