F-150 XLT 2.7L Ecoboost

April 24, 2019 Took truck to dealership in Stonewall, La for 30,000 mile check and I had them do another Oil Consumption check (3x time). They finally discovered what I was telling them after the first visit in April of 2018 and again in January of 2019, that they had an INTERNAL oil consumption problem. The problem I mention was oil going into thru valves and into the exhaust system thus creating no LEAKS anywhere but excess carbon on tailpipe beside normal. I was using 3.5-4 quarts of oil before 5000 miles.

The Service Department found out that BOTH Cylinder Heads and associated gaskets/bolts had to be changed out. Ford authorized (still under Factory Warranty) the repair and cost of loaner truck for duration of repair. I did not have a clue on HOW long until week later May 7,2019 the Service Advisor told me 60 DAYS due to back-order of Cylinder Heads and other parts. Ford Lima Ohio plant did not have Cylinder Heads on Hand?? They produce the 2.7L EcoBoost Engines.

I contacted Ford Customer Service Center and asked them to REPLACE my entire Engine due to Oil Consumption issues and BEARING Failure that could result further down the months of use. Ford DENIED the request so my other option are thru Legal Lemon Laws. The F150XLT is in shop now 78 days they have received the parts July 8, 2019 and currently working on vehicle.

While out of town driving on city streets at speeds of 40 -450 mph, the low engine pressure light illuminated. This happened on an intermittent basis a few times. At the risk of causing further damage, I took the vehicle into the Ford dealership at which time I was told the oil intake pump was malfunctioning and needed to be replaced. The next day I was told there was a TSB on this issue and that the engine which only has 3300 miles would need to be replaced. I was then called the next day and told Ford HQ had to be notified to approve whether the engine should be repaired or a new engine installed. I am currently waiting for the results as my vehicle is currently in the hands of the dealership. It is outrageous to pay the type of money that is paid for a brand new truck only to have a major engine problem. I have no desire to have a brand new truck with a "repaired" engine. It will be unacceptable to me if Ford doesn't replace the engine.

brand new 2016 2.7 ecoboost before the first oil change noticed it liked to eat oil at the rate of about one quart every 1000 to 1100 miles. it just made it to its first oil change. Told the service rep,The information fell on deaf ears they could have cared less now I know why. As far as Ford is concerned I'm just a big dumb animal only there to pay for and drive the thing. On occasion it would blow blue smoke out the tailpipe. Never consistently. could never get it on video or to show up at the dealers. It continued to use oil at the same rate and finally got it smoking on video and blowing a halo of blue smoke from the tail pipe that could be seen most times that the dealer would believe. Have since discovered Ford assembled an unknown number of 2.7 ecoboost F-150's in 2015&2016 with known head gasket issues they are allowing customers to drive these vehicles until they report the problem to the dealers. My local dealer has had 4+ of them not counting mine. The dealers determine if the engine ran to long with low oil pressure too long to rebuild and swap the block if they must. You lose all your warranty time and milage on the swap. The bonus is you don't know if the crate engine you get. comes from the same block of defective build engines. and you get nothing to cover if it is. Cause you lose your warranty miles and time. Thanks Ford! I wish I'd kept my old GMC. Just a warning to those out there with the 2016 2.7's watch out for a recall?

2016 F-150 2.7 V6 eco boost. 3000 miles, has used 1 1/2 qts of oil. At 5000 miles, had used another 1/2 qt. Smokes when started. Was told by FORD Dealership in Vernal UT, there are problems with the block and engine has to be replaced!! REALLY??? It's a lease and I want a new one. Nicknamed it Smoky Joe. Will be talking to O'MERA FORD in Denver about switching this one for a smokeless one. Was told it will be down up to 10 days for engine replacement, if they can get all the parts together before starting the rebuild.

F-150 XLT 2.7L Eco

My F-150 with the 2.7 Eco Boost has now used approx 8 quarts of oil in 6600 miles. The engine shut off during a pass (stupid ass feature) and a warning light flashed that read "LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE" I was traveling and stopped overnight, next morning I checked the oil and surprise, NO OIL ON DIPSTICK, NONE. I was in Cortez, Colo and took to dealer so they could verify and see how low it actually was, after pouring in 3 quarts of oil it was about 1/8 of an inch below top of grid so I left it there so I could observe (4k miles at inspection). So by the time I got back and took to my dealer it was another qt low at 5200 miles. Dealer added a quart. Drove home, 75 miles from dealer and within a few hundred miles it was at least a qt low again, drove back to dealer to do an "OIL CONSUMPTION TEST" which I thought was pretty much already proven.....keep in mind no smoke or leaks.

The dealer screwed up the test and its been about 400 more miles and is about 2 and 1/2 qts low and smokes like hell intermittently.
