My truck started making a whistle and ticking sound different than the standard turbo whistle. I've also noticed a burning smell recently when accelerating. I took the vehicle in to the dealership, and they pointed out that the exhaust manifold is warped. Looking online, this is a standard issue with Ford's Ecoboost engine -- however this is not covered by the extended warranty. This could cause the vehicle to fail emissions testing

After doing extensive research on the 2016 3.5L F150 eco-boost exhaust manifold failure, it seems that this is a very common issue. Especially when both sides are warped, it lends to the consideration that a design flaw involving a restriction of the front cylinders increases pressure to the point of failure.

Exhaust manifold studs broke causing the manifold to warp turning into an exhaust leak. This is a common issue with the 3.5 eco boost due to the lack of manifold studs towards the rear of the vehicle. This is a design flaw that is costing the average person approximately $1400. There are thousands of post and videos with this issue.
