F-150 XL 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 103,500 miles

I purchased this 2017 Ford F150 couple of years ago when the mileage was approximately 35,000. It has driven fairly well since the time I purchased it. However, one area that has been a progressively serious concern has been the power steering. Over the past couple years, I have noticed that periodically I will start to get a number of warnings and error messages on the Ford operating counsel. Lights start to flash caution indicating that the ABS is out of service, the “Traction Control” system shows an error and turns off or becomes disabled, and the dash states ‘Steering Assist Fault Service Required. However, despite these warnings the truck appeared to operate fine. Typically, the lights would turn off after a couple of minutes or I would pull the truck off the road and turn off/on the ignition and the problem appeared to correct itself. I have taken it into the Ford dealership several times and notified them of these warnings and caution lights and was told that they could not reproduce the problem and that everything was active and operating fine. I would estimate that this has happened probably 5-6 times over the past several years.

Then, I had all 4 tires professionally replaced and had one tire pressure sensor fixed this past week. Very soon after leaving the tire shop, my console lit up with all the cautions and warnings mentioned above. However, this time my power steering actually went out of service while driving. I was unable to control the truck’s steering whatsoever. The amount of force and strength it took to turn the steering wheel was absolutely breathtaking unbelievable. It took every single ounce of strength and adrenaline to turn the truck. I came very close to several accidents before coming to a stop.

F-150 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,000 miles

Went into the car wash with a perfectly operating vehicle, and came out with no power steering. The dealer said I need an entirely new EPAS assembly. The truck only has 53,000 miles and is 5,000 out of warranty. This is a major safety issue as my truck is the max tow, with a tow rating of 13,000 lbs. If I had been pulling my boat when it went out, it could have been tragic.

F-150 Lariat V8 Eco

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,500 miles

I'm getting a sensation of loss of steering control while driving. This situation is just starting. This happens several times a day. I'll be reporting the problem to my dealer on Monday. I have a 2017 f150 Lariat V8 Eco boast. I've noticed at least three other complaints of a similar problem on this site. I did not see a resolution to the issue from Ford other than to reset the codes and test drive. I find that unacceptable.
