The tailgate issue started about a year after we got the F150. It happened during the winter where we lost snowshoes and other equipment. It happened while pulling a camper. The gate fell on the switch to lower the hitch jack on a 7000 lb camper and scraped on the road. We have had this in for warranty 3-4 times. The dealer did the recall incorrectly at first, then supposedly correctly after that. This worked for a while, then it fell again.
Most recently on a long trip it fell down 3 times in one day. The truck now has 73,000 miles on it and its still not fixed correctly - this is a hazard. I've installed an air gate so as not to loose anything if it falls down.
I'm amazed they can't just disconnect the darn thing. I didn't want the remote tailgate but it comes in the Lariat package.
