The tailgate has opened while driving. The tailgate has opened while parked. The tailgate malfunction appears to trigger the alarm system as the horn and lights flash. The horn and lights are completely random. Even if the tailgate is left down, truck unlocked, and the engine is off the horn will -€œblow-€ randomly and / or the exterior lights will flash. All completely random. However the main safety concern is the tailgate opening while driving. I have appointment with dealership.

The manufacturer was contacted and referred the consumer to NHTSA. The contact worked for autonation Ford katy (20777 katy fwy, katy, tx 77450, (281) 305-8949) and stated that the tailgate could be opened while the vehicle was in motion, especially with the key fobs. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
