While driving i was coming to a stop approaching a traffic circle. I had to yield the car already in the circle as i was stopping the truck made a clunk and lunged forward while i was breaking forcing me to enter the circle before it was safe to do so. I almost collided with the approaching vehicle with a child in the car. Another instance the vehicle between shifting gears randomly lost power as if it shifted into neutral, then a loud clunk as it finally found the gear when it did the vehicle lunged forward. Another instance with the vehicle in park i started the engine, after the starter finished and the engine turned over there was a loud clunk and the vehicle lunged forward in park enough that the tires made a noise and could have hit a parked car in-front of me. The dealership said it is a known issues with the 10R80 transmission and will cost me $8,000 to $10,000 to repair. This transmission has always clunked and missed gears since i bought it new in 2018 and i have had it looked at multiple times, but the dealerships always said its -??normal-?? Ford knows this is an issues and has not issued a recall and it is very dangerous.

Transmission shifts erratically causing loss of power at highway speeds. Transmission issues have occurred since the first month of ownership. Truck lunging when in park, down shifting from 10th gear to 7th at highway speeds, etc. Early problems/concerns were mentioned to service advisors when the truck would be taken in for service but I was always told, that is just the way that the 10R80 works. As time progressed, shifting issues got worse. They significantly increased after the powertrain warranty expired. Currently the truck shifts erratically in low and high gears and frequently experiences a complete loss of power travelling on the interstate. My biggest concern is that this is a known issue by the Ford Motor Company that has not been properly addressed via recall. The CDF drum inside of the transmission has a known design flaw and has been revised to eliminate the issue. The web forums dedicated to the F150 and any other model of vehicle ford equipped with the 10R80 are littered with similar stories and concerns regarding the transmission. ultimately, with the total loss of power at highway speeds and the need to immediately vacate lanes of travel to allow the vehicle enough time to figure out what gear it needs to be in, or to shift appropriately to regain highway speeds poses an immediate threat to any vehicle equipped with the 10R80 transmission and the original, or any early design, CDF drum. I would also like to note that I entered this with the most recent occurrance of this issue. It has happened multiple times during the course of ownership both before and after the warranty expired. Unfortunately, all of the Ford service writers/techs/managers, claimed that it was normal operation of the transmission.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil per week. The contact stated that one quart of oil was added per week. The contact was unaware of any oil leaks. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that a longer oil dip stick and an engine software update was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the oil consumption persisted. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was damage to cylinder #2. The engine was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that much later while start the vehicle in the morning and shifting to drive (D), the transmission remained stuck in 1st gear. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the transmission struggled while shifting into, and out of 2nd gear. The contact stated that once the vehicle hard warmed up, the transmission was shifting normally. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

The 2018 F-150 has a huge oil consumption problem, constantly having to add oil after several hundred miles driving the truck, at a minimum a qt at a time. The F-150 10speed transmisson also has a hard shift and jerks while shifting gears, after it warms up it the harshness of the hard shift goes away but still has the hard shifts. There is no warning lights on the dash, and it can be reproduced. Have on several occasions with the hard shifting almost caused several accidents being rear ended due to the truck not shifting out of gears as it should. Along with several times on the interstate after having to stop for other accidents and the truck not getting back up up to speed as it should.

Was driving approximately 55 MPH on a busy highway when all of a sudden vehicle lost all power and check engine and service lights came on. I had to immediately try and merge to the side of the road which created a unsafe situation causing traffic to slow immediately behind me so that I could coast to the side of the road and into a parking lot. Engine still running, transmission issue. Felt like it was in neutral; however vehicle selector was in drive. Had vehicle towed to dealer and was told it is an internal transmission issue and that I need a new transmission. They want to charge 11K to replace with new one. Ford rebuilt this transmission at approximately 29k due to issues and 80k miles later having issues again. This transmission always shifted hard and would drop down in gear while traveling creating an unsafe situation. Ford knows about the issues with these transmissions in the 2018 year F150's and hasn't implemented any recalls, only TSB's that don't fix the issue. I am still getting quotes from other repair shops to replace the transmission.

The 10R80 transmission slipping in 1st gear, the engine will rev to 2000 rpm and without warning the transmission slams into gear causing the tires to spin. The loss of ability to engage into gear caused me to need to pull over to the side of the road on two separate times. This has happened when the transmission temperature is cooler. The failure occurs unexpectedly. I have brought the vehicle to a local transmission repair business.

First, when the truck is at a stop (red/stop sign), acceleration fails, resulting in a sudden, hard jolt into gear or a complete loss of power. Near rear end collision occurrence avoided several times. Second, while driving 0-30MPH there is a constant hard swift into gear causing a forward/backward jolt of all passengers. Last, and most significant, is the sudden loss of power experienced with highway driving. While driving 75-80MPH, sudden deceleration occurs. The gears shift spontaneously from 8/9 down to 1. Speeds are not capable of being manually controlled, by the driver, at that time. What happens next, is either a sudden jolt into gear following deceleration or complete Loss of power. Collision was avoided by pulling off to the side of the road. This sudden deceleration occurs also when attempting to merge into highway traffic. Here again, a rear end collision was narrowly avoided. The truck was serviced to evaluate the cause of this issue, by independent service station technician (vehicle no longer under warrant). They stated that the transmission was the problem and, after consulting with Ford, a computer upgrade was performed. This unfortunately had no impact on the above problem, despite following the recommended "break in" time. Currently the truck is not operable as the transmission is too unpredictable and erratic, rendering it unsafe to drive. This truck currently has only 46,000miles. Ford customer service was notified of this problem who in turn suggested we contact NHSA regarding this complaint. Incidentally, a family member with the same year, make and model truck had the transmission replaced, just this month, because of similar power train operational issues. I encourage the NHSA to evaluate this matter, as POWER TRAIN FAILURE is a known issue with this particular vehicle. Most importantly, this is a concern which poses a significant impact on overall public safety.

there is a problem with the transmission in this truck. it slips out of gear randomly and you lose all power and the RPMs spike.it also slams into gear and sometimes wont shift at all. Apparently, Ford is aware of this problem but refuses to correct it. This is incredibly dangerous especially in traffic or merging. I was almost rearended several times. I've had this truck since it was new and I've never towed or hauled heavy stuff in it.I should not need a new transmission with barely 70 thousand miles on it.

My 2018 Ford F150 had issues such as harsh shifting, jerking, lunging, hesitation, and loss of power. Every time my truck was in the Ford dealer I asked them to check the transmission. Every time they told me there was no issue with the transmission. The jerking/slipping/hard shifting got progressively worse. I took my truck back to the Ford dealer. The truck had 69K miles. The dealer stated I need a new transmission. Ford was not offering any financial relieve. I asked the dealer if they tried the TSB issued by Ford. The dealer stated they have never got them to work. Ford is aware of defective transmissions in there 10 speed model but are only fixing them for Trucks that are still under warranty.

Transmission shifted from 1st to forth and back down causing sudden stop barely avoiding a rear end collision with evasive maneuvers from other drivers. This condition repeated other times with no traffic. if I allowed it to continue and accident is eminent. I have taken the vehicle to a transmission shop for repairs. This condition is a manufacturing defect acknowledged by Ford and I am dumfounded why this agency has not required a recall for this dangerous condition. I guess you want to see someone die before you take action.

As you prepare to stop or tap the brakes, the transmission shifts into a different gear, such as the "tow mode" or the "sport mode" independently. This would down shift, throwing occupants forward. Then, to return to "regular" drive mode I would need to either tap the brake brake until reaching the desired "mode", or depress the gear button located at the end of the shift lever. This action jerks the driver and passengers forward without prior warning of the transmissions shifting. This has occurred since owning the F150.
