I had my tires rotated at the my local Ford dealer and they told me there was a problem with my lugnuts. The chrome finish is wearing off and the socket would no longer fit. They sold me 3 after market lugnuts to finish the job. I just had snow tires put on and the installer showed me that the chrome finish is wearing off and actually cutting in to the inside rim off my all terrain tires which only have 10,000 miles on them. The "chrome" finish is stuck to the tires and peeling off the rims. Very annoying in appearance, and I have to wonder how well my tires will seal and last, and how many more lugnuts I will have to buy at the next rotation!

I was driving down road and the low tire pressure light and warning came on. I pulled into a fast food restaurant. Within a few (5 or 10 minutes) the tire was completely flat. I removed the tire changing equipment and tried to loosen the lug nuts. The lug wrench supplied with the truck (I bought it new) would not fit the lug nuts. I tried to hammer it onto the lug with the lug wrench but could not engage.
I called a local tire supplier and they came out with a larger lug socket, removed the tire, and patched the tire.
Cost= $45.00 and two hours lost.
There is a metal sheet covering over the lug nut. Anytime a lug socket is used it distorts this sheet metal covering on the nut. Later on the socket cannot fit over the nut.
The tire supplier said this was a common problem with Ford products. If I was in a desolate location, I don't know what I would have done! This problem needs fixing!!!!!!!!!!!
