Transmission clunks when upshifting after going uphill onto level surface, when accelerating after briefly slowing transmission makes noticeable clunking noise. Dealer checked this issue in 2024 but did not find any issues with the transmission. This issue with the transmission has gotten worse since the visit to the dealership to address the complaint. There have never been any warning lights that indicated a problem. There is now a slight hesitation when upshifting which I feel will only get worse over time.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted, dramatically reducing speed of the vehicle before returning to normal functionality. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000.

When driving the truck under normal conditions, truck will randomly shift unintentionally from gear to gear (ie. 3-8-1) not following typical shifting pattern, causing loss of power temporarily to the truck and sometimes the rear tires lock up due to the transmission shifting issue. I have had the rear tires lock up momentarily at speeds at approximately 50km/h. Truck has 10-speed transmission.

2019 F-150 experienced harsh shifting between gears causing a severe jerking. The truck also would experience delayed shifts causing loss of ability to accelerate in intersections. On the highway, the vehicle sometimes down shifted unexpectedly from 10th gear to 1st gear causing the truck to lose power slowing to dangerous speeds on a highway. The truck would display "Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power" alert. Vehicle experienced this malfunction multiple times and is now currently at the dealership for repairs since 03/26/25. Dealership diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission.

  • 62,000 miles
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving between fourth and fifth gear, the vehicle experienced hard transmission shifts. The contact stated that the failure increased progressively while driving. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and exceeding 4th gear, the vehicle experienced an unintended transmission downshift to first gear, and the engine revved to 5000-6000 RPMs even though the accelerator pedal was released. Additionally, the rear wheels locked up. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. The contact was able to resume driving; however, the failure recurred several times while driving. The power train warning light was illuminated, and the message "Transmission Failure - See Dealer" was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle had failed to respond upon shifting in reverse(R). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the TCM was rebooted; however, the failure increased. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25002(Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that only a third of the repair fee would be covered; however, the manufacturer later denied any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

The Transmission clunks through gears, bangs into reverse at times when backing up but the worst is backing out into the road and wont move. 3 times this has happened, and its dangerous! Ford knows the transmissions are a huge problem but makes people pay up to 6000 dollars to make repairs. For what people pay for a truck this is unacceptable. 2019 with 85,000 miles should not have these issues but everyone has the issue.

I Have a 2019 ford 150 3.5 eco boost with a 10 speed transmission. I will be driving along with no issues with the vehichle shifting and then all of the sudden it will shift hard, jerk, clunk make noises I have no warning lights or check engine lights, I went to a local parts store and they said that a bad coil pack could cause this issue, however I have brand new coil packs and plugs and the pickup is firing in order. I then had taken it to a local transmission place and they had told me that this transmission should be recalled and possibly needs a software update. Is this something I should pay for if it going to keep happening or should a ford dealership be liable?

I've been having problems with the power train on the F150 10 speed transmission. There are times that the vehicle loses power and the engine speed drops to nearly zero. This has happened on several occasions while I'm driving into an intersection, or ongoing lane. The unexpected loss of acceleration is extremely dangerous as the oncoming vehicles aren't expecting my vehicle to come to a stop. I believe Ford is aware of this problem, yet nothing is being done to alleviate the issue. It can be an expensive repair. They would have to replace the PCM module and reprogram the vehicles electronics. They have offered up alternative fixes, but none of them seem to work and the alternative fix can be expensive to the consumer. The problem started far in advance before my warranty ran out and yet Ford would deny the problem and I couldn't get any Ford dealer to remedy the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Transmission would not engage after stopping at stop sign. Initially accelerated to go thru intersection and truck would not engage any gears and was stuck in the middle of the intersection. Switched gear shift to several gears and drive modes and finally engaged in manual shift. Transmission continued to slip and switch to several gears and skip several gears until arriving at destinations regular drive gear selection. Did not see any issues under the vehicle after parking and fluids appear to be clean and filled up to normal levels. Made appointment immediately for service.

Was driving at highway speeds when transmission unexpectedly shifted from 10th gear into first gear. It lurched the truck back hard, almost losing control. Speed was decreased and then brought back to 70mph. This is then when the truck shifted back from first into 10th held at 10th for a little bit and then did it again shifting from 10th into 1st lurching the truck back. The service light from the transmission came on after this. I pulled over and looked under the truck and saw it leaking transmission fluid. I then turned the truck off and on and put it back into gear and tried reverse, it didn-??t go into reverse so I tuned it off and on again and reverse came back. I had the truck towed to a dealership where they inspected the transmission and replaced parts in it. After being there for 2 months waiting on the parts I finally got it back. I know Ford has had investigations in the past for the 6 speeds transmissions unexpectedly shifting. And I now know they-??re being investigated again for newer models in the 6 and 10 speed transmissions.

Truck was going down the highway at 75mph when the transmission went from 10th gear to 1st. I have videos of this happening several times and then eventually a gear symbol appeared on dash. From day 1 when I bought the truck new it would have a hard time shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. It would lung forward or not even shift and the truck would just roll forward trying to figure out what gear it is in. I've taken the truck in to multiple dealers and all they would ever do is reset the computer. Once I took the truck in for the 10th to 1st gear issue. I told the new dealership I went to about the 3 and 4 issue. The service advisor said his trcuk had the same issue and he was able to get it fixed under warranty but I was already out of the warranty so they couldn't do anything about the 3 and 4 issue. For the shifting from 10 to 1. They rebuilt the transmission and put some locking device to keep fluid flowing into the case. Since the repair that I had to pay out of pocket for. I still have the 3 and 4 shifting problem. Only happens on cold starts when I'm accelerating up or down a hill. The new issue I'm now having is a hard shifting into reverse. Ford keeps telling me I don't qualify for any reimbursement because I'm outside of the warranty limit, even though, the truck every time I took into a Ford dealership for oil changes, I would complain about the transmission and they would just say it's a known issue but nothing they can do about it. Also after the transmission rebuilt, about 2,000 miles after, driving on the freeway, smoke was billowing out of the bed and transmission fluid was leaking out of the case all underneath the truck. The truck was towed back to dealership and they just said it was filled with too much transmission fluid.
