  • 80,000 miles
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH over a bump, the vehicle made an abnormally loud banging sound. The contact stated that the vehicle then made an abnormal humming and grinding sound that persisted while driving at various speeds and coming to a complete stop. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly while coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the dealer informed the contact that the abnormal sound originated from the rear differential. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the rear differential needed to be taken apart to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to repurchase the vehicle and to partially cover the repair of the vehicle. A case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
