Bought the vehicle used about a year ago (March 2024) when it had about 125,000 miles (to replace my nice 2015 F-150, list in a multi-vehicle collision in snowy weather), and put about 25,000 miles since then, changing the engine oil roughly every 3,000 miles, because I like to take care of my vehicles.
Now this loud ticking/tapping noise that keeps tune with the engine RPM started about and now it's loud. Opened up the valve covers and at least one of the rockers is bad, really loose and all four cams have cam lobes that are scored and at least one cam lobe per camshaft has some pitting. I was told by two shops that at least the entire valve train needs to be replaced, including camshafts, phasers, chains, etc... which in the real world amounts to pretty much the cost of a new engine.
My original 2015 F-150 bought new with the Coyote V8 of that generation and lost in the collision mentioned before (not my fault btw., car in oncoming traffic lost control when pushed from behind by another vehicle that lost control, and veered in my vehicle's path) the truck had about the same mileage as this 2019 F-150 and that 2015 Coyote V8 engine was like new, including the camshafts and lifters/rockers, phasers and chains. Wish I could have kept at least that engine and the six speed tranny (insurance company wanted an arm and a leg to buy out my 2015 after they had written it off).
